Sorry, the character designs just do seem kind of similar...at least to me. Oh well, at the very least, I can't say I'll ever be able to troll Sora No Woto now. Gustav Klimt's artwork is some of the most beautiful art I've ever seen, and I've basically got a house full of framed paintings, calendars, etc with his artwork. That wasn't all over the place. That was a coherent story within the realm of an unknown setting. Sure it never explained the reality of the walled town, but it's not something that could be comprehended by the people within the town. The setting was and remains a mystery and that is part of the magic of the series.

If you want sense, look up some fan theories or analysis on the series. One popular theory was that all the haibane were people stuck in purgatory after death and had to fulfil some sort of spiritual requirement to pass on. Rakka and Reiki were suggested to have committed suicide, hence why they were sin bound.

The universe made perfect sense in it's own terms. It might seem baffling compared to our world, but part of the purpose of fiction is to explore imaginative new worlds.

Episode 6: Kanata's day off. She gets a haircut and goes around visiting all the people she's met.
Episode 7: The 1121st enters No Man's Land to retrieve a part for the tank and encounters an enemy scouting party. Noel is revealed to be an enemy exile.
Episode 8: The military is on high alert after the skirmish, Kanata and Kureha man the night watch together. Kureha is afraid of darkness and combat.
Episode 9: The fortress is infiltrated and captured by a small group of enemy soldiers led by Grace. The 1121st hides in Yumina's church.
Episode 10: The platoon members disguise themselves as townspeople to gather intel and plan a counterattack. Rio infiltrates the fortress and contacts Command, but is shot and captured by Grace, who plans to revive the demon.

I have watched Haibane Renmei, SnW and K-on, and K-on and SnW share far more in common than Haibane. K-on and SnW have cute girls doing cute things in different settings while Haibane spends more time with characters angsting the fuck out, particularly Rakka at the start and middle.

I'll agree completly with those who says that Sora no Woto does have elements which can create a moe feeling in the viewers toward the girls, but it for the must part does so in a way that I would call believeable (within contexts, as far as anyone would call anime believeable). Noel at times invoke moe for those who like sleepy quiet girls, but she isn't constantly shown as sleepy. only 2 appeareance have her falling asleep, all other time she's perfectly able to staying awake through the day. and then we have episode 5 where she does pic. related. Basicly, her personality define her, and through her personality, moe can arise, instead of having traits meant to involve moe, be the things that defines her. (the same could be said for the other girls too that have been fleshed out)


also, the situation that can create moe for the must part arise from the script, instead of having the script revolve around creating situation that can make the viewer feel moe toward a girl. an example is Kanata sneezing in the first episode with noose running. It can come off as moe, but it doesn't stay there, instead SnW uses her sneezing as a natural springboard to move the scene to where she's taking the bath and looses the bell.

Also, not all situation are milked for moe, such as completly skipping over the indirect kiss scene and even Kurehas Tsundere, for those who like tsundere types, personality toward Kanata last for barely 2 episode, with episode 5 making it clear that she's simple being jealuse and pridefull, and basicly acting her age, instead of constantly being Tsundere toward Kanata.
tl;dr: SnW have elements that can invoke moe, but it hardly revolves around only that, and invokes moe in ways different from other shows.

Is a byproduct of her personality. It's not just cute trait placed there just to be cute. She likes machines a lot, so she stays up all night working on the tank, so she doesn't get enough sleep, thus she's sleepy.

Do you mean her sucking at it initially? Because not only does that make sense seeing as she's never had proper training before, but it allows room for character development which is always a good thing.
