We have a problem, if their is anyone here who actually watches NBC you know that for the past two weeks that they have been promoting (and possibly soon commercializing) the japanese and otaku culture, and not just once but several time over the past weeks on shows like on conan o'brien (LOL FIRED), 30Rock, and other shows. Is it possible that NBC will start showing anime? What should we do about it? Do we support NBC?

Ausfag here, we have anime on one of our 7 free to air channels...but very rarely and always late night, and I thought most american tv was on demand these days, and if that's true why are people watching normal tv? Isn't it equvailent to just dling tv anyway, because that's what we do here, our free to air tv is at least 1 - 2 months behind your tv airing, and thats only for 5 series.

TL;DR Tv here sucks quit bitching.

None of that is safe. 90% of anime is still too controversial to air on American TV. Even 'adult' time blocks (like adult swim) only show shit that was made for 10-13 year olds and try to market it to 16-20. Give the US a few more years to demoralize completely and then we MIGHT get a few 'safe' anime on TV.

Disregarding Disney and The Simpsons, the perspective on animation is that it is a backwater of the entertainment industry in America. If enough people get their fix (or part of it) from anime there must is a possible market. Do most Americans want to see Japanese culture on their television? Probably not.

I don't mind if they air anime during prime-time network television, as long as the content of the series isn't too offensive.

Anime has very controversial themes, and some people should NOT be watching it. We need to find a balance between entertainment, and moral standing.

At worst, what will happen is people will start watching very common anime (Bleach, Naruto, etc.) and try to delve into the "culture", and while we see these people in our day-to-day lives desperately trying to be part of a new fad and shining their power level, we silently watch from the shadows and laugh.

For what purpose? Speaking from a purely business mindset, they only have everything to lose if they air anything that's moeshit.

The only benefit they would gain would be from the fags that watch moe, but then they would realize that the moefags already just watch everything online anyway. The rest of the country is watching said moeshit and is either chalking it up to be for anime fags or for little girls.

NBC would lose all sorts of business and credibility.

We have Cartoon Network for that, even if it's still a decaying corpse.

With that said, I wouldn't mind anime on NBC, but I don't watch a lot of TV in the first place (and for that I blame 4chan). But maybe not replace prime-time shows, though; in those kinds of channels, it's best to do a test run, or else you lose ratings and get varied reactions (pic related, it's one of them).

The manga originally tried to get released in the US, first under its translated name "A Child's Time," then by another name "Nymphlet", and finally it just got plain pulled out.

One of the problems with American viewers -or most of them- is that they almost ALWAYS look at something and take it at face value. That's why KnJ got pulled out; despite the pedophilia tones in it, there IS a plot in there somewhere.

Internet shouldn't be censored because there are safe-guards that can be put in place to ensure offensive material is not displayed.

However, anyone can turn on a TV and watch it. This is dangerous because there is no way to protect them in this situation.

I'll admit it. I loved Avatar when it first came out. You know why?

It was an American animation with a plot. Seriously, with stuff like Spongebob and Fairy Shitparents I understand that the lack of a plot definitely leaves the show open as far as material goes. But when I watch a show like that, I feel like my brain is melting. Especially when there is no continuity.

At least with most anime, the viewer is expected to remember," hey remember this because it will be important later." That's part of the reason Avatar appealed past the average Nick audience.

Hell my normalfag friends watched it back in the day and will see the movie when it comes out.
