I started watching Index yesterday. Up to ep8.

however, index is kinda different to railgun.
railgun is very moe, and cool.
index is more of a sci-fi 'the power of friendship' anime, but not one that rubs it in ure face.

If you decide to pick up Index, go with THORA, delicious 720p is delicious. I liked Index though like everyone has pretty much said it is different than Railgun.

The TV-HD version is actually higher quality than the BD for some reason. I lack the comparison picture, but trust me on this.

Index is better than Railgun Imo. Touma is a fucking god.

pacing is definately different. Index is more episodical with short 2-4 episode arcs and ends on a really anti-climactic episode for the season.
it's a great watch if you don't mind what most of /a/ hates in a protagonist:
Touma is pretty typical white knight, save the damsel no matter WHAT and of course, Index, needs really no explination.
I do like Railgun a bit more mostly because I fell in love with the characters while Index has a better story thus far.

I'd say watch index first. That way you'll be spotting familiar faces later on in the Railgun.

Railgun's really bad in comparison. Index has 4 long plot arcs and two short plot arcs in 24 episodes. Railgun has 1plot arc in 10 episodes.

So... I mean, it depends why you like Railgun. If you like railgun for slice of life or something, then no.

Personally, I think both are really bad, but still entertaining.

Since Railgun starts before Index and eventually overlaps it, most of the main story is already out of the way so Railgun is much more 'light hearted' than Index.
Really depends on what you want in your anime.
