Fate route is a good introduction, Unlimited Blade Works route is awesome and is only topped by the ending of Heaven's Feel route. Save at every decision point, you will want the saves later on to make picking up the alternate dialogues and endings easier (there are 45 endings, though 39 are bad/dead ends). Highly recommended.

Just in case: F/SN is an eroge, there will be sex scenes. No, there aren't that many. The rest of the story is what makes the game awesome.

The translation comes with a flowchart for what effect all the choices have. Use it to hit all the Bad Ends on the way through, if you like being thorough.

I mean Kirie. Lancer's not really evil, although he is really awesome. I think he gets a decent amount of credit. Kirie, on the other hand, I didn't even know existed when I started playing it, and is one of the only pure evil villains ever that actually has a compelling argument for being the way he is. Anyways, fate is semi boring and short, its just happens to be Saber's route so its mildly interesting. UBW is interesting too me because of the hopeless situation Rin/Shirou are in, the fact that it Rin is the heroine of the route, and because Lancer is fucking awesome in that route. Other's will say because of the the actual "Unlimited Blade Works" part, but I didn't see it as interesting as all the hype did. Finally Heaven's feel is just fucking awfully long, but again, its pretty good aside from the normal end and the fact that there was suddenly new elements introduced to the Grail War that weren't previously there in the other 2 routes.

Heaven's Feel, while somewhat interesting, is probably the biggest chore at first since it has the worst heroine, but the last few days will seriously make up for most of it.

Fate is the dullest route (especially if you've watched the anime), but has the strongest narrative. It's the most self contained story, and the most consistent route, but suffers for having to act as the set-up cycle.

UBW can be seen as a drawn out character study, and has the least to do with the overarching Grail War. It benefits by neither having to sow the seeds nor tie up up the loose ends of the game's often preposterous backstory. Also, what little humor there is in Fate/stay night, is mostly in this route.

Heavens Feel is the exposition arc, and is the darkest by far. It's full of asspulls, has the least compelling and sympathetic characters (most of them don't even resemble their counterparts from the earlier routes), but has the best explored antagonist (want some?) and the series' most amazing set-pieces.

Prepare to lose at least 2 weeks of your life
