Indeed. If they would just sub their own shows and release them to the rest of the world, I am sure things would be better. The industry gets supported and Japan gets another product to export besides cars.

Only thing this will do is cause American voice actors to lose their jobs. But hey, if they would put their backs into bringing their characters to life, things would be better.

lulz. Japan never needed America's money anyway.

Anime was originally meant for Japanese viewers. since anime became more and more common and popular, especially during the 90's - now, capitalists took advantage.

besides, I already explained this in a thread yesterday, even if we bought anime DVDs, none of the profits from the sale of those DVDs go to the anime producers/animation studios. instead it only goes to the distributor, only with moar profit.

support the anime industry by buying DVDs? bullshit. Japan never did rely on money from other countries to fund their animu, yet they're able to produce good quality shows. (Then again, how one defines quality is up to the individual.)

the anime industry isn't dying so much as undergoing a correction. during the late 90s and early 2000s the anime industry under went a boom and became a bubble. too many investors and too many anime producers tried to sell to a market they thought would continue to grow by leaps and bounds, which it didn't. the anime industry will likely slim down, produce less shows and go back to profitability and growth

No. Anime fans did. An industry is nothing without his customers. Sadly, most anime fans don't realize this. The big execs figure if they can get people to buy their products without putting too much time, money, and effort into it, they can get away with it. And they do. Remember Endless Eight? If EVERYBODY decided that they weren't going to settled for five or six more episodes of "I raab yew" and Yuki sipping a drink, then they'd either have to end E8 early or pull Haruhi off the air. But no, there was a fanservice scene with Haruhi's OPPAI so faggot otaku kept watching for OPPAI.

nope. it's actually cars and electronics.

anime distributors only buy THE LICENSES to distribute the anime.

    *sighs* here I go again

this is how shit works whenever you want to distribute foreign stuff:

    1. go to parent company and ask for product.
    2. buy the license to distribute that product locally FOR A FIXED FEE
    3. sell the product locally for a price which is usually higher than the regular price of the product in the parent country
    4. ???
    5. PROFIT! not only you get back the money you lost, but you also gained moar earnings through the extra income.

    that's how things go.

Correct. The problem with the industry right now is that they're trapped creatively. Moe only appeals to a small niche group of pitiful losers, and there aren't enough of them to sustain the industry. At the same time, they're scared to try something new because moe at least has some audience, whereas something original may have no audience at all.

So they keep churning out the same trash because while it's not especially popular or successful, it is safe.

The more moeshit they make, the more non-moe fans give up on anime. But since the moe fanbase isn't big enough to keep the industry going by itself, this will slowly lead to the death of the industry, and to a vicious cycle where studios put out more moe shows to please an ever-shrinking niche group of fans at the expense of everyone else.

Anime's success back in the early 2000's lied in the fact that there were shows for every taste. The more they move away from that, the quicker anime will die.

    >The problem with the industry right now is that they're trapped creatively
While I agree that this is the problem with the anime industry, I don't think moeshit is to blame. There's too many adaptations of manga/light novels/visual novels/video games/etc. And lots of these try to be direct translations onto the screen, instead of using animation to take the story and characters in a similar, but altogether different direction that the audience can enjoy. And when they don't copy the source material exactly, fans of the original version complain and this backlash can cause the studios to stop making more inspired shows. Which causes the shit we have now.

I used to buy DVDs and other merchandise from my local comic book and/or music store. But I stopped because first they doubled and tripled the prices. Then, they stopped selling it in my neighborhood because nobody (but me and maybe a few other people) was buying it. A couple of years went by and they started selling anime again but it was all horseshit (The big three) or American imitations at doubled prices. Then I got a computer and just started downloading scanlations and subs. I'd go back to my local bookstore to see what they had to offer and of course, it's always old shit and on top of that, they translate and edit to "suit American audiences" so you know it's shit.

you're only supporting the american anime industry by buying dubbed dvds.
unless you're importing you're not making any difference to the future budgets of anime titles.

probably CLAMP, but then again, they're known for their bizarre ideas (case in point: Tsubasa Chronicles) so I doubt they can fill in the gap.

Clannad looks nothing like K-ON. Clannad character designs looks more like the ones from Haruhi S1.

Only Naruto is likely to end anytime soon. Bleach will probably last at least another five years and One Piece is only about halfway through.

The point is that it is an already existing facet of Kannagi's design, so it can't be used to prove that SnW's designs are based of K-On!.
