Hard to tell. The first day it was released, /jp/ was all over it. Really, they ate it up before /a/. Then /a/ got onto it and they magically started hating it. I remember a pretty funny MSPaint comic floating around /jp/ where the guys are discussing KS, then someone with a telescope runs in saying "Guys, /a/ likes it!"

Fun games, lovable characters, awesome music, funny doujins, fappable fanart, amazing fan-made music (sans Iosys). If it had a studio produced anime run that combined all these strengths, it would make billions.

Played some of the games a while back. They're pretty overrated. Worth playing, but overrated. The characters are all shit (trust me this doesn't really matter though), but the main problem is that it's too repetitive. After you play the first level you'll be like "Shit this is awesome I dodged the shit out of that." But then you play it four times on every mode and it starts to lose the color.
