    >A.D.VISION, INC. CONCLUDES SERIES OF ASSET TRANSACTIONS

    >HOUSTON, September 1, 2009 — A.D. VISION, INC. ("ADV" or the "Company") announced today that June 1, 2009, the Company concluded a series of transactions that are expected to result in seamless delivery of home video products and television programming to customers.

    >Through an asset purchase agreement, AEsir Holdings, LLC ("Aesir") acquired a subordinated interest in selected programming from ADV's film library together with other intellectual property subject to all liens and security interests of the Company's senior secured lender. The transaction requires Aesir to assume specific obligations and scheduled liabilities of the Company under legacy license agreements associated with the acquired programming.

    >Concurrently, the Company concluded an asset purchase agreement with SXION 23, LLC, doing business as "Section23 Films," a home video distribution company, under which it assumes account servicing and distribution operations in connection with the library acquired by Aesir, subject to all liens and security interest of the Company's senior secured lender.

    >John Ledford, ADV's President and CEO, states "We believe the actions we initiated and completed provided the same or more value to the Company's secured lender and its programming licensors while giving other key stakeholders such as employees and customers some potential value or the reasonable probability of realizing value."

    >In a separate transaction, Valkyrie Media Partners, LLC ("Valkyrie") acquired a 100% equity position in Anime Network, Inc. ("ANI"), formerly ADV's television unit, pursuant to a stock purchase agreement between ADV and Valkyrie. That transaction includes an assumption by Valkyrie of specific liens and security interests of the Company's senior secured lender.

    >In another separate transaction, Seraphim Studios, LLC acquired Amusement Park Media, the production unit of A.D. Vision, Inc.

    >Further announcements are expected from the respective acquiring entities over the coming days.

I actually liked ADV as far as R1 companies go. Seemed like they usually picked series that I liked to bring out here.

It's only natural that they fade out though. With the proliferation of Internet fansubs and now HD broadcasts in Japan, everything is available faster and cheaper for English speakers.

It's kind of sad to see them go before others, since I thought they had a good eye, but they've basically served their purpose.

those industries arent nearly as threatened by piracy as anime is. the anime fandom is essentially built on piracy, as its the only effective way for people overseas to discover new franchises. without the internet, the only anime we would ever get are generic shonen fighters guaranteed to sell toys and video games. japanese companies look the other way when it comes to piracy because it spreads the word about other franchises, and they hope that interest will generate sales when the release those franchises overseas.

    >>24740068
Your missing the point those industries attempts to fight piracy have failed horribly and maybe even drove more people to piracy as a result of bad business practices. Besides what would be the point of even bothering to crackdown on an industry where very little money is being made. Its not even possible to crackdown on piracy if they wanted anyways so whatever.

I think they stopped fighting and figured to try and beat them at their own game. That's why all those shows are popping up on crunchyroll now, all perfectly sanctioned, translated, and ready to go. The quality and the site suck, but now they're pulling in cash from subscribers and not frittering money away on hiring lawyers in other countries to protect their IP.

Actually this is very different. When people pirate music and movies, they get them maybe a week before they normally would on a high-quality audio CD or Blu-ray. When people pirate anime they're getting it months or (more likely) years before they normally would on just regular DVDs.

When you pirate anime you're getting something a few days or weeks after it airs in Japan instead of years later or possibly never. The quality is also much higher now that things are broadcast in HD and ripping from broadcast can be cone digitally. In many cases the raws from TV look better than the R1 DVDs.

Pirating movies and music is a difference of ability or willingness to pay. Pirating anime is a difference of quality and speed.

The sooner the entire American anime industry dies the better.
    >> Anonymous 09/01/09(Tue)15:55 No.24740830
    >>24740262

if those industries were losing serious money to piracy, you can bet they would be doing a lot more. right now, they simply resort to intimidation because the actual loses are a drop in the bucket compared to what the make. for instance, a quick look on pirate bay suggests that less than 10 000 people have downloaded (or are downloading) batman arkham asylum, a game which is guaranteed to sell at least a million copies in north america alone. thats not really a serious loss.

can you name one anime title thats sold a million copies in north america? or even 100 000? the vast majority of anime consumers, am already small market, download their shows and then never bother to buy the dvds once the show becomes licensed. many shows sell enough to break even, but not enough make a profit, which is one of the reasons so many companies have shut down recently (geneon, central park media, and now adv). if this continues, japanese companies may pull the plug on all anime licensing, and then crack down on the piracy, because it no longer serves their purposes of getting the word out. an industry that has real money to lose will fight much harder than one that only loses pocket money.
    >> Anonymous 09/01/09(Tue)15:58 No.24740952
    >>24740830
How would they have money to lose if there is no infrastructure in place to sell translated anime? The western market is barely on any Japanese companies radar as it is, if more companies die and the lump sum they get from licensing dries up let me assure you, they will not give a shit about fansubs nearly enough to "crack down on them".
    >> Anonymous 09/01/09(Tue)16:02 No.24741102
    >>24740952

they make (some) money from the west right now. losing that is money lost. and id say that western interest is becoming a much bigger interest to them, like the english haruhi dub hype or multilingual release of kurokami.

Regardless, there's not really anything they can do about it. The best they can hope for is sending cease and desist letters to fansubbers (many of whom will ignore them or sub anonymously) and the ISPs of people on torrents (obviously not the only way to get animu)

Should have released their anime on UK R2 DVD BEFORE USA.

That's what you get for being Americentric. We Brits get our revenge. Just as we have on the record industry with MP3 filesharing. Our kick in the bollocks to them for ripping off we Brits. Should've released CD albums here BEFORE the USA. AND be cheaper than America.

Our downloading fansubs is our kick in ADV's Yank bollocks. Should've licenced anime ASAFP. NOT years later (a few months later at most), AND on UK R2 DVD FIRST. AND cheaper than USA.

You're paying the price for treating us as 2nd class customers, ADV.

Why is this news? ADV has been dying for years. Their actors/translators/engineering already work for Funimation too, most of their old titles are being released by other people, and really the only person going out of business here is Matt Greenfield and does anyone even give a shit about Matt Greenfield going out of business? Hell I bet his wife doesn't even give a shit, she's probably too busy bugging Funimation about Rebuild 2.0

This is what I did not expect. A Australia's "Madhouse" type monopoly, where only one company owns the rights to all anime in North America.

Because of the closure of ADV films, Funimation is now the only major distributor of anime DVDs. Just like Madhouse is the only major distributor of anime DVDs in Australia/New Zealand.
