This is a story about how anime saved my life.

Basically, last week I was hit by a drunk driver on the interstate. My car flipped off the side of the highway and landed. I lay there, pinned under my compacted car, trapped deftly in my seat by metal and seatbelt. Bleeding profusely from my head and my leg from what I can tell, a pulsing knot in the side of my head from impact.

Basically, I knew I had a concussion at this point, things were blurry around me. So I had to stay awake, somehow. The pain in my head was getting pretty bad and I started singing "Nantokanare" from the Akagi OST I was listening to before I left. I was singing it at the top of my lungs, trying to fight through the pain of the concussion when they finally pulled me from the car and cut me loose. This continued until I actually got to the ER apparently through the entire ambulance ride. I don't remember much of what actually went on between the accident and the hospital, just being told I was singing really loudly the entire time and because my concussion they couldn't sedate me.

On the plus side, they said staying awake so long probably saved my life.

    tl;dr
don't drive drunk, watch more animu

TWICE now I've gotten two rap playing gangstas to break their speakers at red lights. I often times play Deerhoof while I'm driving (experimental rock band with Japanese female vocalist, close to "animu" music). At red lights, every now and them people try to drown out my music with their nigga beats, and twice now I've gotten them to bust their speakers trying to play over my music. The smart ones give up and embrace the Deerhoof.

I don't get out much, but whenever I have to take the train to work or when I'm going to the supermarket or something I do listen to music. A lot actually, like I hardly take my headphones off. Drown out the noise around me, I listen to whatever I want. But my MP3 is filled with like only Japanese songs, only because I haven't actually listened to the radio, TV, or people to learn any songs from over here. All the new songs I hear are from the internet, all the sites are visit are limited to to basically news sites, 4chan, and download sites. Because of this, I pretty much only get introduced to only Japanese music.

So anythning on my MP3 thats English is from like years ago that I never even listen to.

So yes, I only listen to anime music in public, though quite a large amount of them have never appeared in anime (the artists themselves may have made a song that appeared in anime though.)

And just so you know, no I'm not the guy blasting my music through my headphones so loud that you can hear it clearly. Or the person rocking their head while singing with headphones. I listen to my music quietly because I just like my music that way.

Funny story though, I was on the train once around the time Code Geass was airing in Japan. I'm sitting down on the train reading my manga on my laptop when out of nowhere, from the other end of the cart I hear JIBUN WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SEKAI SAEMO blast through the train at max volume. It lasted for a few seconds before whoever had it on turned it off.

Also, something similar happened to me months after. This was around when CG was on Adult swim, some guys literally came onto the train and started singing Colors. In Japanese. Bad broken Japanese, but they tried. And actually handed their hats around expecting people to actually pay them for their street performance.

There are some strange people in New York...

I love driving to video game and anime music. SKILL by Jam Project and Lei Wulong's theme from Tekken 3 are winners.

How can you take such a blatant truth and denounce it?
It's as if you expect to be so sure of yourself that I start to doubt myself.

This "true self" wankery is just a product of "feel-good" culture. It's present in most religions, and has been amplified in popular culture and is an essential point in shonen anime.

Read some Steppenwolf. While Hesse isn't the greatest author out there, he more or less conveys the same message I'm trying to.

As a senior at my small, Catholic, Kansas high school, I played both "Tank!" and "Cha La Head Cha La" for warm up music during basketball games.

We barely lost state. I blame it on them not letting us play our own tunes at the neutral site.
