UPDATE: Apparently the DDoS attack is being caused by a trojan some 4chan users have downloaded. If you've downloaded ANY FILES linked on 4chan, please immediately go to this link and download the removal tool: VundoFix by Atribune. Otherwise, all users are encouraged to run a full system scan to ensure their system is clean. The sooner people do this, the sooner /b/ & /r9k/ will return.
EDIT: Trojan remover updated. Apparently VundoFix is better than Symantec.

I had this happen a couple times where I wasn't even on the internet. It's stopped since I did a couple virus scans but I often had virus alerts involving "vundo" and if I leave my computer on all day long and come home, there's 10 of these little alerts. My comp hasn't been acting strangely beside that, though.

I recently downloaded the vundo fix. Took well over an hour to complete but when it was done it said there was no Vundo crap found on my computer. I don't know if that means it was removed or it couldn't be located.

In windows it's most likely the user that runned a .exe file, though they had to run it themself.
Unless is a trojan through java and the likes, wich is highly unlikely in this situation.

You don't have to rename anything, when 4chan was getting plagued with viruses the only way to get them was to save them to your computer and then open with an exploitable programs. You're probably a newfag so you don't know this but people used to embed files into images particularly e-books and shared them on 4chan, the reason why this stopped was because of the hackers uploaded virus loaded jpegs aimed at exploiting people who opened them in photoshop or windows viewer etc...

My computer was infected with a shitload of trojans and viruses a while ago. I've gotten rid of everything that directly interferes with the computer (Pop-ups, etc.), but chances are that some are still there.
The only major problem I have right now is that everything runs slow as fuck. I don't know if it's form this 4chan shit, or if it's a lingering piece of one of my previous infections. I don't mind being patient, so it doesn't really matter.

JPEG files are not executable, they are only data that is processed by the JPEG processor.
Though you can encode one into a picture or get a picture infected, as long as you don't change the file to something executable, nothing can happen.

I'm pretty sure that those have a strict security setting, thus making it impossible to proprietary extensions to allow execution of code contained within the JPEG file.

I would love it if Matsuda-chan were a woman, but that's impossible, because women that share my taste in anime and metal do not exist.

Also, in my half a year of owning a non macintosh PC, I have had one piece on malware, and it was called "Windows Vista." I had to install a good antiviral program called "Ubuntu" to get rid of it.

Ahahah no, that is not how buffer overflows work at all. It needs to occur in executable code, which your jpg download has absolutely no rights/ability to access. It used to be a problem with C program but even now we have things like stack canaries that can guard against it.

the PS bug was not buffer overflow so much as it was just shitty coding practices.

Wait, are you saying that buffer overflows are no longer an issue?

    Really?

No, I typed too fast, I didn't mean they're not an issue I just mean the techniques do exist to make them unusable. Buffer overflows cannot "do anything," that's bullshit, they're only effective if the code they're exploiting is poorly written. Google stack canaries or the general topic if you're interested.

Can only give a list of how you can get infected?

From knowledge, the obvious ones are/were:
    - Renaming pictures and then running them (these were spammed a fuckload a few months back).
    - Running exe files.

well I goddamn hope so. I'm not claiming to know things I don't, I'm asking people to explain how this works and I get people acting like elitist fags.

Of course not, you are only claiming that everything is impossible and ignoring every reply. And we have all the right to act like Elitist fags because your questions are FUCKING RETARDED, and you have NO FUCKING CLUE HOW THE COMPUTERS work.

True dat. Last time I reinstalled Windows I decided to finish a torrent before setting up my firewall. My laziness earned me another reinstall about an hour later.

Initially I was helping this guy with the virus then I was interested in this jpeg exploit. I do not know everything about computers and I'm sure you don't either. People should not be scorned for not knowing something and asking questions. If I make an assumption and it's wrong you should enlighten me instead of calling me a retard.
