You are a hundred years too early to be challenging Brock!

light year is a measure of distance not time

this enforces my theory that the world of pokemon is so gigantic that only one pokepace is the equivalent of our light year. Therefore, the town of vermillion city is bigger than the known universe.

And? He's just trying to say that you're extremely far from him in the gym.

Even though Red (but I'll call him Ash because he has the Pikachu following him) could probably see him only a few tens of feet away...

Given that the journey to become a pokemon master is based primarily on distance traveled while time is simply secondary, utilizing light years as a measurement is more accurate than years.

Unless you have faster than light travel, even at 0.9 the speed of light it would still take a long time to get anywhere.

Because of spacetime dilation, it can actually take a relatively short period of time in observer time to travel light years, because in your frame of reference things compress get closer together relative to you.

It maybe difficulty to tell from the Game boy Pixels but there actual is a 9,460,730,472,580.8 km distance between the boy and Block. His argument is completely valid, I find no problem with it.

You're the one who assumed he was talking time. He could be referring to the figurative distance between them in terms of training skills.

See, I caught that the first time I played it as a kid, but I had assumed at first he was using a distance metaphorically, so I didn't think much of it until he tried apologizing for it afterward.

Also, shouldn't this be in /v/?

My point was that traveling fast than light is scientifically impossible, because once an object reaches that speed it turns into energy/light and is thus destroyed.

The only way around that problem is either a) developing an engine which can go 0.999999999 the speed of light without reaching that barrier (but that would still be very slow, it would take a ship from earth years to reach other stars at that speed), or b) being able to 'bend' space-time so that X arrival area and Y destination exist simultaneously in the same space-time, and as you know when you bend space time you create a 'hole', ie wormholes, warp travel etc.

What I never got is how shitty trainers like Brock got to become Gym Leaders. Kids from a city across could beat the shit out of him. Hell, the god damn Hikers in Mt. Moon are more dangerous than Brock is.
