I can kinda see it, except that Lelouch wasn't wearing purple symbolically. It was just used as color-spacing between black articles of clothing, where the only other appropriate color for this is grey, which wouldn't fit CLAMP's idiotically colorful scenery and would serve to make him look more like a bad guy.

Plus, white non-Roman Goth kids prefer to cosplay purple more than grey, and it's obvious from all of the in-show fanservice that CLAMP is trying to please fans more.
