What does /a/ think of Starship Troopers?

It's a pretty good novel if I may say so myself.
    >> Anonymous 12/15/08(Mon)00:33 No.17153070
lol this is a bit out of place...

    fantastic novel

make sure to read The Forever War as well, which many people regard as peer work.

I've been meaning to read that.
If you like Heinlein' stuff, I think you will greatly enjoy Scalzi's Old Man's War. It expands on it, while keeping the same feeling. I actually liked it better, it's the same space marine, but in a way that feels meaningful.

    Polite sage for /lit/

    Pretty good.

I liked the way Heinlein concentrated the entire book around Rico's thoughts, but it felt more like a memoir than a novel (was it supposed to be that way?)

You guys should read I Will Fear No Evil. It's about an old man who has his brain transplanted into a woman's body. Wacky hijinks and sexual exploration ensues.

    >> Anonymous 12/15/08(Mon)01:19 No.17154084
Pretty good. I though the ideas it presented about capital punishment were interesting. It was a surprise since I had seen the movie first.

First time i read it, i didn't quite understand it because all i expected was "kill kill kill." Ahh i need to find my book again...its somewhere here

    >> Anonymous 12/15/08(Mon)01:21 No.17154141
Good as action novel, silly as political commentary. The first movie was pretty entertaining even if it wasn't particularly faithful

Is that the CG show? It seemed closer to the book since they had the Skinnies in it and what not.

Closer to the book compared to the movies, yes, but they still mess with things (Such as Dizzy being a woman, and Rico being some weird Jay Leno/Latino hybrid instead of a Filipino)

Still, it's a great watch. Something to kill a weekend.
    >> Anonymous 12/15/08(Mon)01:28 No.17154272
I like how the Mobile Infantry were all badass in the novel, but low rent Imperial Guards in the movie.

Seriously, what what is this shit?

    Starship Troopers, in /a/??
