You can't compare them directly, but at the very least, they handle their ideas similarly, in the sense that the plot serves merely as a container to deliver the message. Gurren-Lagann even goes further than Mindgame with the way the writing is structured, even if Mindgame is a technical achievement beyond Gurren-Lagann.

Eva is far more complex than both of those films. You're just missing the true core of the show b/c the obvious stuff spelled out for the dumber audience may be distracting you, or you may belong to that group.
