377 KB ITT: Your anime convention pet peeves Anonymous 09/29/08(Mon)21:22 No.15123676
Mine is a big one, BAD HYGENE. I realize that some otaku are hopelessly lazy and will forgo bathing because it's too much effort to bathe or to leave the house to buy soap, but seriously. You are staying in a hotel, hotels give you free soap and showers USE THEM.

Still, there's only one thing worse than male otakus with bad hygene, FEMALE otakus with bad hygene. Too many times this past summer con season, a skanky looking female with cat ears would brush past me and my nostrils would instantly be assailed by the pungent odor of rotten fish. Seriously, girltakus, would it kill you to douche once in a while? Worst of all, I found it that it's some kind of yeast infection that causes that odor. I swear, as I am typing this right now that, as the convention wore on, it was spreading. Lord, I don't know how but IT WAS SPREADING. By day three, one in three female attendees smelled like the Sam's Club seafood department.

anyway, what are youre convention pet peeves?
    >> Anonymous 09/29/08(Mon)21:26 No.15123771
The one thing about body odor is that it'll soak into you, even if you bathe. SO if you're around stinky people, by the end of the day, you'll smell just like them. That would explain how the smell was spreading. It was probably on you, too.

Also, my pet peeve are fangirls. A bunch of dumbass twits making ALL female fans look bad. Plus they are seriously annoying, in a real irritating way, and half the time they're really arrogant, too.

I think it's a testament to the kind of debauchery that goes on in these conventions.
    >> Anonymous 09/29/08(Mon)21:30 No.15123858
Never been to a anime convention or anything. So I don't know about the hygiene of otakus.
I shower 2 times day, sometimes 3 times a day. And I wear clean clothes everyday.
    >> Anonymous 09/29/08(Mon)21:31 No.15123890
It's not exactly a yeast infection, more like a yeast imbalance. An actually infection is MUCH nastier. But actually, an imbalance can be caused by TOO much hygiene. Pussies are supposed to smell a little for a reason. Regularly douching is a very bad idea. It's only good on rare occasions. Hell, to be honest, they really serve no good purpose at all.

This lesson brought to you by an actual girl on the internet.

Anyway, the worst thing I've experienced at a con was having to gaze upon the site of a gigantic whale of a guy, he was at least 300 pounds if not more, wearing a shit that said tentacle sex
    >> Anonymous 09/29/08(Mon)21:32 No.15123915
yeah i actually work out and regularly shower so that fat-unclean-sweaty smell does not happen to me

Great. You know 4chan, just like half of everyone on the internet. It doesn't mean you can get a V mask and think "Tee-hee-hee. Only the members of my secret internet club will recognise me!"
Two years ago it was pretty cool to see a V mask when the guy only attempted to be EFG but now it's just sad.

I would have said the smell too but my sense of smell is shit.

Best product is those anime figurines in the center of bars of soap.

Conventions like Otakon are especially bad with smell because it's summer in Baltimore and many people are wearing heavy costumes. Most of the smell comes from the gamer room, though. Those guys NEVER shower.
    >> Anonymous 09/29/08(Mon)21:55 No.15124395
oh god the smell~ luckily I've only been to one convention in my entire life... but seriously... even the people working the booths need to shower every once in a while. you think people won't buy your overpriced merchandise if you take a half hour break to shower? jeez, I was trying to buy some manga from this one booth and the chick smelled like rain (as in, a wet dog that had been in the rain, not fresh~). bitch didn't even have what I was looking for
    >> Anonymous 09/29/08(Mon)21:55 No.15124414
My Pet peeve is that there is TOO MUCH Funimation advertising. Everywhere you look you can't help but see the Funimation logo somewhere in your vision. I wouldn't mind it too much if Bandai, Geneon, ADV, VIZ, and Media Blasters has some advertising too, but there is just WAY too much Funimation.

Another peeve is that why it is cons can only get voice actors from Funimation. don't they realize that there are other Companies out there. And why is it the same voice actors every single year!!!! I can only get so many Chris Sabot autographs people!!!
    >> Anonymous 09/29/08(Mon)21:57 No.15124440

That and I saw a faggot walking back to my hotel with his hands in his pockets and he said "I think next year I will dress up as L because I feel like I'm walking like him right now." when the mother fucker only had his hands in his pockets. Rage so hard at that.

What do I hate most about Megacon? There's no good panels. Just a huge dealer room.

Oh, you want RAGE? Okay, I'll just repeat what everyone else in the thread has said: overpriced food and drinks (goddamn convention centers), fat people, bad cosplay, too much cosplay, cosplay period, the smell, the price and difficulty of finding just about anything worth buying at a convention, not being allowed to take too weapons, specifically airsoft guns, into the convention center without having shitty goddamn orange tips on them and a goddamn tag somewhere proving you're allowed to carry it, etc., etc..

Also, I'm the only person to ever have attempted to dress up as the Ghostrider and wasn't allowed to set his head on fire. Fucking securityfags.

I don't go. Waste of money. Don't want figurines, can get DVD's on Amazon, doujinshi can suck horrendously (I've never been to a con, do they sell them?), can't stand pungent body odor, and they don't come to Wiscompton anyway. You have to pay to get in, right? So no.

I have to say that the Fanboys and Fangirls piss me off the most. They come in droves to conventions, and make the rest of us look like a bunch of creepy fagots. I come to the cons for the panels, the screenings, AMV conventions, and I browse the dealers room a bit. I like anime/manga enough to warent a visit. But because of these moronic douches, people see my badge and dodge out of my path on the way back to the hotel. Think about it, if it went unchecked, every single con would become a slaughter as someone eventually breaks down and decides to erase so much trash from the world.

It's been a while since I've been at a con, but the thing I hate the most is the backstabbing, backstage politic games. It's always one group against the other, and always being so secretive about it. I remember seeing people being sent out as scouts to check the other stands to try to upstage them.
And the inevitable karate/random martial arts showing. But I think that's more of a thing down here.

This is a common practice at most cons, anime or not, to be sure, but the aggressiveness of some of these people is legendary (and particularly embarassing). One was even known for specifically sleeping with a fan cosplaying as a character they played. Think about the psychological implications of that.

My latest pet peeve developed at Supanova Brisbane. It may as well been called Bondage Sunday, because there were just heaps of fangirls running around in crossplay with leashes on.

NOT SAFE. You could hardly move around the convention from the amount of people, and the morons were barging their way through without a care that people might get hit (or wind up strangled). Many had metal chains as well. Worst of all was that the convention didn't even have a first aid center.

Bad hygiene, screaming fangirls, underage faggotry, and that crazy person who likes my costume and decides to follow me around the convention and make strange posts about me on /cgl/.

2-time acen attendee here. What I've mostly found disappointing about cons is that every time, I go expecting to find some rare treasure from an obscure series that I like, something to come back and post pictures of and brag about.
Silly me. Dealers want to make money, and they aren't going to do that by stocking shit from a show that only a few thousand Anonymous outside of Moonland have ever even heard of.

On the whole, I like cons because I can, for once, stop suppressing my power level... because even then, all these other fuckers around me are so much worse that no one even notices.

Pic related. Tea from this mug is particularly delicious.

No, anon! You must surpress your powerlevel even more during con-time. You don't actually want to look like one of the fanboys/fangirls do you? God help me if they think I'm one of them and start talking to me, FUCK!

Con veteran here. Let me tell you my nipple-tweaks.

First off, it's a pain being a fan of less-popular series when you're looking for cosplay photos. Makes you feel lonely.

Second, lines up the yin-yang. When you're tired, you don't quite have the patience you normally have.

Third, not having a nice venue to return to next year. This year's Kumoricon was nice, a grocery store was nearby, and across the street was a nice park for group pictures. Sadly, the tards trashed the ballroom, so no return.

Finally: Schedule, what's that? Practically NOTHING starts on time. Thank gods for portable /b/ (aka my DS).

Conversely, though, it's a thrill when you DO find some well-done cosplay from a more obscure series. I saw one or two Aria cosplayers at acen last year - really made my day.

Heh... exhibiting. Try exhibiting and dealing with extortionist monopolistic bitches who don't understand that without the fans and customers lining the walls, they wouldn't be able to line their pockets with gold. In previous years at AX and at other cons, my company made it a habit of offering ice cold ramune's with any purchase of our products. They didn't add a whole lot of cost, made our customers incredibly happy since everyone seems to know the inside of the convention hall gets stuffy as all hell, and the fact that it came with the purchase often clenched the deal since they cost $3+ at any of the sanctified stands of the con. If people wanted to purchase them, we offered them for $2 each, more than enough to cover our costs and a fair market price over the previously mentioned sanctified stands of the con. This last year we got a call from the head honcho herself with a cease and desist and I honestly believe it hurt our sales considerably, may she rot in hell and be replaced.

I don't think it matters too much tho... as with most cons, AX is growing out of proportion and is sure to reach critical mass... and commercialism will push either the consumer or the exhibitors over the edge and eventually say "forget this". And a new con will start and it'll be small, and uncorrupt, and the cycle will repeat itself...
