I was hoping people in this server would be able to help me. These are background rips from New Super Mario Bros. DS's 2004 beta build. Many of the assets here (i.e. the yellow clouds bg (VisualDisk - N2 Clouds), and 3D models) were taken from the same sources as Super Mario 64 (DS). I really like the more realistic style of this build and hope to find the source of these bushes and cliffs backgrounds (I circled them). They don't look like they were "drawn". Perhaps they could have been taken or reused in another game? Idk. I hope someone here recognises these backgrounds. It would be great to know the original sources and perhaps find more related graphics that might would've been used for other worlds in this early state of NSMB. (edited)

It's possible. Since you already have matches for the sky then they could be in other VisualDisk libraries. Not all of the are archived currently so we can't tell now.

In the game I've been finding matches for, I noticed matches with 3 of the 20-30 libraries I have downloaded. They tend to somewhat stick together.

Little something fun for #MOTHER3 fans tonight. A guy (єchσєs) pointed out that HAL might've reused some textures directly from EarthBound 64 in Super Smash Bros. Melee's Onett. If true, it wouldn't be the first instance of assets recycled from EB64 (2nd slide: @Obsidian_Plague).

I just noticed that 2 Sky Backgrounds in Kirby Super Star (Bubbly Clouds & Halberd) seem to use real photos of clouds rather than the cartoony pre-rendered SGI and Hand Drawn ones seen else where. Does anyone happen to recognize any of these clouds?

The game very rarley uses textures for it's pre rendered assets (mostly being solid colors and modeled out) so it's always very interesting to find more examples of stock photos being used Besides these clouds there's only one other example I know of where the game uses a texture.

Tried taking a peak for those a while back and sadly couldn't figure it out, honestly wouldn't surprise me if it is lurking inside what we have though

They used stock photos in pretty much anything really, those that look cartoony, for example mkwii, they just used some PS filters to make the illusion

well, those are obviously prerenders

but in 3D games, it's always surprising to find that most of them are source textures

specially bk, that one really surprised me, i was very confident that a lot of those were prerenders lol

yeah i was just refering to how games like DKC are also prerendered but use a lot of textures as well

and can be found all thought levels and even characters
