I was given a few texture CDs and a lot of CAD CDs from the early 90s. They are all from American companies, so I think some of them may contain the original images for textures from American PC game studios like ID or gearbox.

You should upload them to archive.org
KerbalAwesomebuilderX26-Jun-21 10:08 AM
Ok. I’ll try to figure out how to do that
Speed Weed26-Jun-21 10:18 AM
You're gonna have to setup an account

I’m really interested in those. Are they backed up anywhere yet?
KerbalAwesomebuilderX26-Jun-21 02:04 PM
No
Fanamel26-Jun-21 02:06 PM
Hey that's pretty cool, any help getting those archived is very much appreciated
KerbalAwesomebuilderX26-Jun-21 02:07 PM
Ok.
KerbalAwesomebuilderX26-Jun-21 03:24 PM
Ooh there are some nice textures in here!
I might use them myself for half life maps
KerbalAwesomebuilderX26-Jun-21 03:53 PM
Hundreds of textures in bitmap format. I’ll try to get them on archive.org

interesting, don't think I've seen these yet
it looks like wraptures and extreme 3D version 1.0 are on archive.org
But I'm not seeing uploads of the blue CD
KerbalAwesomebuilderX26-Jun-21 04:22 PM
The blue CD has lots of demo scenes and AVIs
And the wraptures disc has everything from the blue disc and the red disc
I have the blue one installed on original hardware from 1995

after some research, it actually doesn't! "Wraptures Extreme 3D" is a compilation disc of 70 textures from Wraptures One (130 textures) and Wraptures Two (150 textures). the extreme 3d textures are also in lower res overall
we're currently looking into purchasing the above ebay listing so pls try not to end up in a bidding war with us lol

Oh! Great. After purchasing them you will archive them, right? I actually want to use these textures.

ofc

Huh, looks like the gif I used the other day has stopped working. I'll need to redo that

Currently trying to recover the textures from MS 3D movie maker. they are all stored in .CHK files so it's really hard. Every software that I try that claims to extract .CHK files just crashes halfway through
ThatNintendoNerd04-Jul-21 12:09 AM
There are utilities to create your own assets for 3D Movie Maker, so maybe see if that can parse and extract the textures
The file extension might not say all about what the format is. The file magic says a bit more but still not much
Raven05-Jul-21 12:56 AM
I do like how if I run into a weird file type, but it shows up in the windows explorer preview window as an image, then I can just change the file extension to .jpg and it opens perfectly
