intro

So... AJ releasing another unfinished theme. What else is new?

I decided to release what I had because I got sick of working on the theme and the fact that StepMania can't handle 3D well unless your name is Chris Danford. To have no 3D in the theme would be an injustice to the transitions I've spent quite some time on nearly perfecting.

Anways, since it's incomplete, this release is below spec (see versions). Gameplay and Eval were not worked on at all, and Select Style was going to be replaced with Select Mode, but I never made the design for the screen and working with ScreenSelectMaster can get annoying even in StepMania 4.

I doubt anyone will take up the theme, but regardless, I am including a bunch of stuff that may be interesting.

changelog

about the two versions

departure. comes with two themes, the original and the "prototype". The reason I'm doing this is to give some insight as to some of my ideas that get tossed aside during theme creation. As many of you know, theme creation is not a linear process, and things change from time to time. Sometimes, themers like an effect so much that they can't end up using, so it either wastes away in a pile of documentation or is implemented in another theme down the road. With departure., I didn't want to to happen, hence two versions.

original

In any normal theme cycle, this is the product that ends up getting released. Compared to departure-prototype, it has less features, but feels like a more complete theme. There isn't really much to say here.

prototype

The prototype version contains a number of elements that were first in the original version, but swapped out for something else at the end.

Some examples: departure-prototype also differs in the customization options, as there are a lot more of them.

license

If you want me to make a modification of this theme for you, it will cost you some money. How much depends on what you want done. Also, things that SEEM simple can be hard and/or time consuming, so think about that before you make your request.

This was inspired by the dubai11DX thread on Bemanistyle, as well as the fact that I do this in my spare time and can't really afford to do it for much longer considering I'm going to be graduating from college soon, and any real work would usurp StepMania theme production 700%.

Otherwise, the following rules apply:
  1. You didn't make this theme, don't claim to have done so.
  2. Most parts of this theme are freely usable. You don't need permission to use it, but I would like to be notified if you do so.

Exceptions (aka stuff you can't use):
    • Graphics (aside from Fonts, which I don't mind people taking anyways)
    • Any code specifically mentioned in this license. (so far, none)
    • If you use any of the content from this theme in StepMania 3.95 and/or any of its variants.
    • Under NO circumstances is any part of this theme to be used for MOVE. (also known as uGroove)

thanks

This will hopefully be the longest thanks section I've ever written. Thanks be to the stronghold of people keeping StepMania theming alive, but at this point I think it's starting to fall into a spiral of despair.
