Subject: Update on MS comments

We now have a CGI redirect program in place. Your readers may want to download a 1.2 meg file with anchors:

http://www.pir.org/mslist.html

instead of the 775 K plain text file with just numbers:

http://www.pir.org/mslist.txt

With the HTML file you will be able to right-click directly on the names and get redirected to that person's comment. It saves you from figuring out how to translate the number into a URL for that name.

While the 1.2 meg HTML file is getting close to a size that will frustrate anyone without broadband (and may even lock up some browsers), it's still better than the almost 2 meg HTML file of alphabetical names that the Justice Department offers. This ill-advised, bloated file from DOJ doesn't even have any anchors, and two additional steps are needed to find a person's comment.

Daniel Brandt, NameBase, writes:

The DOJ list of public comments on the USA v. Microsoft Corporation case is posted, but apparently not where announced in newspapers yesterday; instead see:

http://www.usdoj.gov/atr/cases/ms-master.htm

There is also an alphabetical list of commentators at:

http://www.usdoj.gov/atr/cases/ms-alpha.htm

However, this list is unnecessarily bloated at nearly 2 megs. I have parsed it down to a 775 K text file. There are instructions at the top for converting the number next to a name to the Justice Departnemt URL so that you can go directly to that person's comment.
