2 November 2004. A, the source of the three emails below writes today:
Statement of AOn or about 2 weeks ago I received a telephone call from a named official employed by the Department of Justice in Dublin asking me could we meet ASAP as he had information that I would find interesting (his words). This call was all the more surprising as I had considered this individual to be openly hostile to me in the past. He handed me printouts of the emails which have been sent to Cryptome and told me that he would email me the originals as he got them.
I openly told this individual that I did not trust his motives for providing the information given our very obvious past together. He told me his motives were because he didn't like the direction the Department of Justice was taking and that they had treated me personally in a very bad way and also because he didn't want to end up like Barry O'Hara. The latter died in February of a very "unexplained" brain tumor despite the fact of never having presented any symptoms.
I asked was he implying that agents of this state (Irish Republic) had a hand in his death to which he replied that he didn't want to end up like Barry and that giving me the information was the best way he thought of to protect himself.
The name and contact details of this individual have been supplied to Cryptome but they have agreed to my request not to divulge them until asked to.
I was at this stage highly suspicious as I did feel strongly that the Department of Justice was in fact trying to "set me up" to discredit me in the Irish media or perhaps even worse.
To try and ascertain if this individual was "on the level" I asked him to write down his contact details including his home address and telephone number and the contact details of another named individual, whose name has also been supplied to Cryptome. I thought that this official would not want his homes address known to me if he was not "on the level" and again was very surprised when he was forthcoming.
Again, I have asked the administrators of Cryptome not to divulge these details until asked and they have kindly agreed.
I then ended the conversation but immediately proceeded to check the details which the first official had provided me, which have proven to be correct. I never at any stage tried to pass these emails off as genuine as even now I am simply unsure but having dealt with such individuals the one trait that they all have in common is sheer and complete arrogance towards ordinary citizens and utter contempt to the law. Many people have said to me that these people think that the law does not apply to them and that is the only reason I feel there is some truth in the emails. To anybody who has dealt with these people before I am sure they all have this to say about them.
I then tried to ascertain with various other sources if there was any truth in the contents of the emails that had been handed to me. Sources and people I asked doubted the contents and said there was no way these guys would say such things on an unsecured server but did say that "knowing how arrogant they are I wouldn't be surprised given what has already gone on with the various Inquiry's on at the moment such as the Morris Inquiry" and the Planning Corruption Inquiry.
I confirm that to the best of my knowledge the information contained herein in truthful.
2 November 2004. Cryptome's response to an inquiry from Ireland today which claims the Irish government finds the emails a painful fiction:
Information provided by the source of the emails in the past has been reliable but the source could not vouch for the authenticity of the emails, which were allegedly forwarded by a party who is claimed to have a grievance against the Irish government, and who wanted the emails published.My source claims to have been contacted by Irish police about the emails since they were published, but I do not know what has come of that.
You may know we have offered to provide the original Yahoo and Hotmail emails as received for examination for authenticity by persons expert in electronic communications. No responses yet. Copies of the five emails are attached. [http://cryptome.org/sean-nolan-email-5.zip]
I will publish the government's view if it wishes, but would not expect a confirmation of the authenticity of the emails until after a thorough investigation, and perhaps not then if past practice of concealing government perfidy is followed. A denial of authenticity is to be expected.
Nobody from the IE government has contacted me. Do tell the government to kiss my ass, quote me.

[anonymous], a rumor that the Irish police are investigating these emails, and to offset the possibility of a deception by e-mail fakery, Cryptome will arrange to provide the five original e-mails -- two Yahoo, three Hotmail -- for examination by persons who provide a PGP public key: send encrypted to jya@pipeline.com whose PK is available on the Cryptome home page. To get past our e-mail filter give the message subject as: "Nolan Kirwan Dalton."

Tim Dalton's coarse language seems to either belie (recent) panic or (long-running) arrogance, but his specific loaded comments regarding Sean Nolan's escapades that would have landed him in Arbour Hill Prison can only refer to the Sex Offender program there, which presumably warrants the "pervert" label as well.

His threat to Walter Kirwan, to reveal the details of their bargain to the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) should be seen as a warning against leaking anything (regarding stolen files) to the press, remarking that "It's a bit late for an attack of conscience."
Nolan's seemingly oblique reference to "the boss" can really only be the Taoiseach himself, as obvious as that may seem. The initial email refers to "that idiot Brennan" or Seamus Brennan, the former Transport Minister that was recently demoted to Social/Welfare in Ahern's recent cabinet re-shuffle. Not sure why Nolan believes that "we" are in need of "brownie points", presumably granted by the British government to the Irish government (or elements thereof) for the granting of Irish citizenship to the kidnapped Ken Bigley...
