8 August 2003 From: John To: "John Young" Subject: Date: Sat, 9 Aug 2003 01:07:14 +0400 Your namingBasyev a freedom fighter has to be the most misinformed thing I have seen on your site. Perhaps you don't have access to news in English about the things this guy has done. In 1991 he commandeered a hi-jacking, in '95under his command a hospital was taken over and the patients and staff were used as hostages, over a hundred innocent people were slaughtered, during '95 he threatened the Russian government with terrorist acts if his conditions were not met. In '99 his forces invaded Dagestan and were forced out leaving a wake of blood behind. This man is a coward anda killer using the Chechen problem to his own ends. They say he was involved in the apartment bombingin '99, which killed hundreds more, and his hand was in the hostage taking disaster at Nord Ost '02 again the death toll was in the hundreds. His people also kidnapped an American doctor in '01 and used him to try to obtain political asylum in the west, and they were also responsible for the beheadings of several foreigners. I saw a filmonce that was made byhis people in which they chained upa poor Russian girl of about 14, raped her repeatedly, tortured her and then cut her head off. These people are notfreedom fighters, they are mafia, killers, and soulless monsters. I would gladly pull the triggerthat ends his existence. A warrior would not take innocent lives.Basayev remorselessly kills and maims civilians on a regular basis, now he even uses women as suicide bombers to kill more civilians. Has he attacked military objectives? No. Theaters, apartment blocks, hospitals, concerts, subway passages, markets, the list goes on, is that what a freedom fighter does? Many of his acts have affected me personally and the people I know. Normal hardworking people who have lived in fear, and have lost loved ones. I respectfully request that you print some truth about this animal. Freedom fighter, I'm at a loss for words. Sorry this really hit a nerve, bud. ----- 8 August 2003 Source: http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/aces/fr-cont.html See: http://www.amina.com/people/sha_basaev.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- [Federal Register: August 8, 2003 (Volume 68, Number 153)] [Notices] [Page 47378] From the Federal Register Online via GPO Access [wais.access.gpo.gov] [DOCID:fr08au03-114] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- DEPARTMENT OF STATE [Public Notice: 4436] Determination Pursuant to Section 1(b) of Executive Order 13224 Relating to Shamil Basayev Acting under the authority of section 1(b) of Executive Order 13224 of September 23, 2001, as amended by Executive Order 13286 of July 2, 2002, and Executive Order 13284 of January 23, 2003, and in consultation with the Secretary of the Treasury, the Attorney General, and the Secretary of Homeland Security, I hereby determine that Shamil Basayev [Date of Birth: 1/14/1965, Place of Birth: Chechen village of Dyshni-Vedeno] has committed, or poses a significant risk of committing, acts of terrorism that threaten the security of U.S. nationals or the national security, foreign policy, or economy of the United States.
