Website rocks border town
EXCLUSIVE

A website falsely claiming to represent Dermot Ahern, the Republic’s
minister for foreign affairs, lists dozens of alleged IRA members in his
home town of Dundalk.
The bogus site also names a man said to be a former garda who passed information
to the IRA leading to the murders of RUC officers Harry Breen and Bob Buchanan
in 1989.
‘Dermot Ahern’s Dundalk Blog Page’ has received hundreds of
hits since it went live on St Stephen’s Day.
The site offers readers salacious allegations on the “rough
underworld” of Co Louth’s capital.
The weblog a type of online diary asks the town’s residents
to post their views on a range of subjects from the mundane, like bin
collections, to the controversial, such as drug dealing.
The site promises that no messages will be censored “simply because
of a difference of opinion”.
Readers are being asked to “name and shame” drug dealers and nearly
20 people have already supplied names and addresses of alleged dealers in
Dundalk.
One anonymous message reads: “If you did this in America, first you
would be killed and second, you would be sued for libel.”
The blog’s author has also asked readers to post comments on the
town’s solicitors.
But the largest response has been to a request to post the names and addresses
of “terrorists in your community”.
Throughout the Troubles Dundalk was considered a safe haven for IRA men on
the run from the security forces north of the border.
Some correspondents to the site have listed dozens of names and details of
alleged paramilitary activities.
It was unclear last night whether legal action would be taken to close down
the site.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said the minister had
“absolutely nothing to do” with the site. She refused to comment
further.
Gardai were also tight-lipped over the issue, saying they had “no
comment” about the unusual web postings.
Sinn Fein Louth TD Arthur Morgan, whose name is featured on the blog, last
night said he wanted the website shut down.
“I am aware of the website and I have written to the web-server asking
them to take off this particular site, which according to their own terms
and conditions states that it shouldn’t be there under rules of defamation
and such like,” he said.
“My initial instinct was that this was done by someone with too much
time on their hands.”

have many things bottled up that may not be suitable for the pages of the
Democrat or Argus so why not go ahead and post them here.
The administrators of this site will be very broadminded with your posts
and your posts will not be censored simply because of difference of
opinions.
We call on you the towns people to post us on all sorts of topics: general
living conditions, shops and their prices, the town council, pubs, restaurants,
discos, roads, hospitals, crime, criminals, local politics, sport, etc etc

XMAS Shopping
I did most of my xmas shopping in the town at the last minute
and at time you could have lay down on the road in Clanbrassil st, it was
that quiet. As reported in the national media most people went North to do
their festive shopping. The pay parking, no plastic bags, no smoking and
the rip off prices are probably the main factors keeping people away from
the town. Its about time the business community and the town council sat
up and took attention that the town centre is going down the tubes.

Didnt realise it until now that the town had such a thriving
sex industry, prostitutes are now operating in many residential parts of
the town. Bay estate, greenacres, mary st north are but a few of the areas
that have been invaded. These girls publish their details on any of the websites

PHOENIX BAR DUNDALK
Have been in this fine public hse over xmas and the weeks running
up to xmas. Probably one of the towns better ale houses, except for the large
lady who works there. To put it mildly she has the manners of a pig. First
time i was in i thought maybe she was just having a bad night, now i realise
she is like this all of the time. SACK HER NOW.

VODAFONE
Vodafone Ireland has its main Irish call centre based in Dundalk,
employing in the region of 200 people. Most if not all those working there
have access to all customer details from their phone records. For years now
it is the talk of the town who is ringing who and who is texting who. Many
employees discuss vodafone customer details on the outside and this can be
very dangerous in a town like Dundalk. What is there stopping Vodafone employees
discussing phone records with serious criminals or terrorists. Very little
background checks are done on those working in Vodafone.

Green Bin Charges ?
Just recieved an email from a reader concerned that Dundalk
householders will be charged for using the green "recycling" bin in the coming
months. Ive just written off to Oxygen who operate the local service for
clarification on the planned charges. Will keep you updated.
