"Nassau Shore" was/is the code name for the clusters of AT&T cable landing stations along the New Jersey Shore (initially), and then was expanded to include all of the AT&T Fiber landing stations, plus the landing stations operated by other companies, but where there was an optical tap provided by AT&T against a competitors fiber.

In time "Nassau Shore" became the umbrella codename for all of the AT&T fiber optic landing stations, the spider-web of interconnections at the fiber level, and then at the packet level, so that the most valuable real estate in terms of illegal eavesdropping was AT&T providing back door into products, and bug provide networks (like the AT&T bugging of the United Nations).

Jim,

Thanks very much for the recent emails, all put on Cryptome.

Question on Fairview-Nassau Shore. Why name the NJ station Nassau Shore when there are a several landing stations in Nassau County?

https://cryptome.org/eyeball/cable/cable-eyeball.htm

Is that name meant to be deliberately misleading?

Regards,

John
