This is a list of US Coast Guard setting of security zones in US ports and waterways after September 11, 2001.

The Coast Guard is required to publish these notifications and requests for comments due to their impact on civilian use of ports and waterways. They provide one of the few views of US Government preparation for homeland security and the overlap of military with civilian jurisdiction in which the Coast Guard has long had a unique role among military departments.

The proposed Department of Homeland Security will incorporate the US Coast Guard, now a unit within the Department of Transportation. It is the principal military organization to be directly affected by the proposed reorganization. The USCG will likely continue to be a uniquely reliable source of military and law enforcement information about protection against domestic threats to the nation, although only those waterway-related. USCG's request for public comments on its actions before they are taken and its timely responses to comments are exemplary and should emulated by government agencies which breed suspicion with unwarranted secrecy.
