From: "Nemeth, Jeremy" <Jeremy.Nemeth[at]ucdenver.edu> The site chronicles a year-long project examining the presence and intensity of security zones in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Security zones are areas of publicly accessible space (e.g. sidewalks, parks, plazas) that are either completely closed to the public or severely limit public access due to security concerns. Using an inventive methodology developed by the project team, we find that, on average, 17% of public space in each city's Civic Center and Financial Districts lies within a security zone. While I was the principal investigator on the project, the website and the project s innovative software were developed by Michael Hinke <michaelhinke[at]gmail.com> of Decision Support Resources and Geoff Anderson of Cloudshadow Consulting. Michael is a recent graduate of the Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) program at the University of Colorado Denver
The entire project was supported by a grant from the university s Center
