I have started incubation on my jars. It's been about 3 weeks and not a whole lot has happened. In fact close to nothing has happened. What I think the poblem is is that the spores I injected the jars with were a little old. I'm wondering if it would hurt if i injected fresh spores of a different species into the jars. It's a question I've been wondering for a while. I didn't know if they would battle each other and ruin everything or if one would just grow faster than the other and not harm anything.

I've read that mixing species is not a good thing. Also, just to rule out other possible problems in those jars, I'd use your other spores in fresh jars.

Different races reportedly will battle. But if you haven't had any germination in three weeks, you're probably not going to, and it would probably be OK, I'd guess..

I just wouldnt chance wasting your fresh spores on possibly contaminated cakes. I know its a hassle to make fresh jars, but its worth your time to. Are u sure your cakes were cool when you injected your spores???? Cool outside can still mean hot inside and that may have killed the spores before they had a chance to germinate.
