How long do you guys think it is on average? And I mean the veeeeeeery first tear of the veil, and when spores are all over the place. Thanks!

I'm with Brettie....
Usually, shortly after I see the veil tear, the next time I walk in the room the veil is totally separated from the ( stipe? ) and usually by the next day if they are not picked they begin to throw thier lovely black dust everywhere...
What are your conclusions tam man?

Cool, just wanted to make sure it wasn't like 4 hours or something. That'd be too damn narrow a gap.

Stopped at my buddies house before work yesterday and his veils were about to break on some cased Maz. I stopped back after work (10hrs) and the caps were almost flat. When those things get moving they move it on out! I think he would have seen spores within 12-18 hours of the flat caps. maybe.

It varies between days and hours. Sometimes it seems like minutes between the veil breaking and the cap being fully upturned.

I had a veil that was just about to go. I went to work, 8 hours later I came home to black dust all over the place...I'm not sure...maybe its a temp thing or strain thing....I was shocked.

Yeah it varies. I have some that began to sporulate within hours of the veils breaking... Other's that have taken a couple of days, and yet still others that were sterile and never sporulated...
And I have had dark heavy prints, where the entire print was sterile... None of the spores germinate.
Mushrooms with their crazy quad genetics express a large number of variations very very quickly... All kinds of genetic variations are expressed.
