I remember a thread a little while ago about getting the vermiculite off of the dried shrooms from the invitro tek. I can't find it and a FOAF is having a helluva time getting the vermiculute off of his cracker dried shrooms. Should they be soaked in water? Any suggestions or a link to the thread? Thanks a lot!

Don't soak dried shrooms in water. Most of the verm can be brushed off. It won't hurt you at all to eat what you can't get off the shroom.

If you have enough shrooms just cut the stem off.

The problem with cutting the stem off for invitro grown shrooms is that, quite often, the verm will be stuck to the entire length of the shroom.

Didnt read anything about him growing invitro. But you can easly get verm off long as you dont mind taking off a little tissue along with the verm

Can fresh shrooms be soaked in water to get the vermiculite off?

Don't do it, I guess you could but you would waste a perfectly good shroom. Yep a toothbrush it should work fine.

You can rinse fresh shrooms in water, but you will find the verm comes off much easier when our little friends are dried.

So a dry toothbrush after the shroom is dried? Is that what you mean?

it works really good that way... i just pull mine out by the roots... dry them completely.. and it's easy as hell to brush off the casing material with a tooth brush.. i feel like an archeologist and shit

Exactly, a dry tooth brush on a dry shroom does an excellent job of removing stuck particles of verm and casing. And trust me, casing is even worse and takes 2-3 times as much brushing to remove, messy as all hell too.

I would think a wyskie little trimming paint brush would work too anything with soft, dry bristles!
