I have read where you put a cap in a jar, then all you have to do with that type of print is fill it up with distilled, and you got a jar of syringes. (taking the cap out after dropping is done, of course)
I saw in that pic of Ralphs he's inverting jars and taking the prints on foil- I assume that's a method for mailing.
i have read the one of the double shields thing over the mouth of a 1/2pt, on index cards, etc.
I would like to do the basic jar, for ease of filling and just drawing syringes from it and storing it and the syringes, and I would like to get a print or two for sharing- I am getting several caps, so there should be enough.
Any favorite methods, and if so, why?
Thank youse all guys

i have two favorite methods. if i'm only taking one or two prints, i like to lay out a fresh paper towel and use an inverted glass w/ foil media.
if i have a lot of prints to do i like to use tupperware with foil media for the prints, seperate pieces of course.

i sometimes print inside ziplock baggies...

Ok, thanks you guys.
Can you fold the foil, is that the basis for using it?
And you're printing on a medium in the baggie, right Quote? That's a nice idea, instead of a jar- opens from the side instead of the top, for less random chance contam fallout from the surroundings?
Thanks again for ya'lls answers...I have some jars I baked today, waiting for recieving.
Here's another question- on a spore/distilled jar, for drawing syringes, is there a hole arrangement that's best? I am thinking a larger hole, to accomodate getting the syringe in deeper, instead of just using an innoculation size hole. Middle of the lid? Towards the edge?

I do all my printing in sterilized jars. just take the lid off, and take the cap out when done and fill with sterilized water from a syringe or 2, then scrape the spores off the bottom and suck back into the syringes. I do it over an oven on low heat and I've made shitloads of them with high success rates

actually a hole by the edge is better for getting those last couple ccs, just turn it on its side so the goods pool around the tip of the needle

boomer, i use foil b/c it works the best, imo. heavy duty kind. i fold them in half and tape the three open sides. for syringes, i use a microwave boiled shot glass(or small glass depending on the # of syringes) under a jar or large glass. works for me every time.

My FOAF has found that a really easy way to print for making syringes isn't really even printing at all. He takes half pint jars, pokes a single hole in the edge of the lid, fills the jar up most of the way with H2O, uses some wire to build a support for the cap up at the top of the jar, then sterilizes the jar, water, and wire at the same time... then just lay a cap on the wire and it drops the spores right into the water, eliminating the need to scrape them into the water. Sticking something through a hole to scrape the spores into the water is just another source of contams. Once the cap has dropped its load, pull it out, and swirl the jar a little to get all the spores into solution, and suck out into your syringes... very clean and simple... minimum number of steps means higher sucess rate.

I'm gonna save this thread- there's so many ways and I want to try them all. I like that yaq, and thanks relic- what I did this time was just go with the standard cap-in-a-jar thing, I was kinda scared. I got four jars, one with I think 3 little caps in it. I hope I didn't wait too long- wanted to show a friend, the one who contirbuted the little piece of cap that started all this who appears to have just arrived- hold on a sec..nope, wasn't him and lord am I waaaaavy right now....air is falling down around me and everything is blu...I'll continue this tomorrow.
Thanks for your knowledge folks, reheheally..![]()

Here's how i print..I take a sterilized gauze pad out if its little bag.Put the cap on the pad, then back it the little bag. Tape it shut , and then the next day there's a thick print on the gauze, then i toss it into a sterized bag of rye and walla. Im very sophmoric in my attemtps, but it works good.
