Hello people. I just finished my first flush about a week ago, yielding about 17-20 grams from 12 half-pint jars. I'm just wondering, is this weak? I've read the archives already on this (someone said 15-30 per flush), but I thought I'd get some more numbers from people's actual trials. Using PFTek for them all, perlite PFTek for most. PF strain as well.

Probably a bit low in moisture. Genetics play a roll too but... Shrooms are ~90% water...
Did you Dunk at Birth?

My cakes never really Blued. I did do some double ended casing, but not for all of them. Its just that the Abhorts (I had on average 2 actual shrooms for each cake) became quickly water logged, so I thought things may be too moist. Maybe dunking is the right way to go.

I would bet you are fruiting the PF Classic. Switch strains (try the PF Hawaiian ;) try increasing the amount of water in your substrate a tad when you mix your next batch, and give Dunking a shot.

When I see the stipes on my little wangs going white, I'm putting more water in the lid and on the top case- enought to get that brown back going- I know that's an indication of too much water, but I'm thinking, maybe not- I dont' know if I have pfs going or what, but I'm proceeding on this:
pf has lots of aborts, pf likes lots of moisture. pf dont' get enough moisture, it throws those aborts.
Maybe pf ain't a white stemmed fungus, maybe, if it does best with lots of water, it's fine to grow it out brown stiped.
So far, no aborts.
I could be full of shit though. Seagulls *do* follow me around....just an idea and the follow-through.
When do aborts happen anyways? when they're tiny tiny? Or when they get some size to them, or what? I keep waiting, but so far, they're all doing well, and more just keep coming, forming.

i may know what you speak of, ive had two separate incidents of albino cakes producing blue, wet, limp shrooms i thought it had to do with lack of air exchange(my humidity was not excessive)

Beno, for a first time that is quite good. Congratulations! Nan, is correct, try some Hawiians next, it is easier to get a better yeild, screw all those aborts. Keep up the good work.

Also, you might find that the following flushes produce more than the first. The PF race does that sometimes.
