These systems are not interoperable, even if supplied by the same vendor. This release includes new firmware and software not available in previous releases. Be sure to read Section 3) Requirements, if you are using older Bay Networks products. 2) NEW FEATURES ============ This release of the Bay Networks BayStack drivers features: Release 3.21: - Correctly scan on all channels with the BayStack 660 adapters, allowing full deployment and channel usage in large networks in the FCC, IC and ETSI regulatory domains. Release 3.20: - Enhancements to support the BayStack 650 (in 802.11 mode) and BayStack 660 adapters (both variants). - 802.1h is now fully functional will all network protocols. - Win-NT ISA-PCMCIA adapter fixes. - Enable the Xpert_RTS_Threshold parameter. - Correctly shutdown the adapter when the Remove button is clicked. - Correctly change the network mode when directed to do so by ASPPRO32.EXE. Features common to the v3.0x series software and firmware: - Full 32-bit (mini-port architecture) driver for Win95 and Win-NT. - Upgraded firmware for 802.11 compliance and improved performance. - BayStack utilities for Windows including: Control Panel for single-click access to BayStack Utilities : - Site Survey for planning a BayStack wireless network - Connection Quality for real-time connection information - Properties for on-the-fly network ID changes without rebooting - Solid ON green LED when connected to an Access Point and a blinking green LED when connected to another mobile unit in ad hoc mode. 3) REQUIREMENTS ============ The only PC Card Adapters that are upgradeable to the 802.11 firmware are those that are labeled "BayStack 650" or "AirSurfer Plus". The firmware in all such PC Card adapters must be upgraded to version 3.00 or higher. The latest versions of firmware can be obtained by contacting Technical Support or via the Bay Networks' website at www.netwave-wireless.com. 4) INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ========================= - Variable I/O window, 16 bytes needed, default base at 300h. - Requires a 4 Kbytes memory window for I/O mode within segment C000h to EF00h, default is D000h. - Requires a 36 Kbyte memory window for Memory Mapped I/O mode within segment C000h to E700h, default is D000h. - For Windows 95 driver installation instructions, please see the WIN95INS.TXT file on the "For Windows 95/NT Installation" diskette. - For Windows NT driver installation instructions, please refer to the NT40CFG.TXT file on the "For Windows 95/NT Installation" diskette. 5) SPECIAL SOFTWARE NOTES ====================== NDIS 3.0 Windows 95 Driver ================================ Interrupt request 9 is not a supported interrupt with the BayStack NDIS 3.0 Windows 95 driver. This can be checked in the Control Panel, System Properties, Device Manager. I/O Mode is supported by the Bay Networks NDIS 3.0 Windows 95 driver. To force the driver to operate in I/O-only mode, set the "IO Mode" property of the driver to a value of 1. To change this value select Settings, Control Panel, Network, BayStack 650 or BayStack 660 Wireless LAN, Properties, Advanced. CARD AND SOCKET SERVICE SUPPORT =============================== This release is compatible with Card and Socket Services versions 2.0 to 2.1. Card and Socket Services is a software specification defined by the PCMCIA organization. Its purpose is to serve as an intermediary between the network device driver and the system resources required by the PCMCIA Adapter. Supported Card and Socket Services are SystemSoft, Phoenix, and IBM. BayStack Connection Agent for NetWare ====================================== The client portion of this program is NOT compatible with Windows 95 or Windows NT. Do not install this program on Windows 95 or Windows NT systems. 6) MACHINE SPECIFIC NOTES ====================== AUSTIN DX2/66 MHZ and Desktop Adapters ====================================== Make sure that the shadow memory is disabled for the region the BayStack adapter will use. If this is not done then an error message of PC Card adapter not found will occur (Note. This is not the only reason you could get this error message) NEC Ultralite VERSA =================== If you are using Card and Socket services on this computer, we recommend using the latest versions of card and socket services and setting the BayStack memory address to 'DC000'. Sharp 6781 and Dell 320 Sli =========================== If you are experiencing problems try the following. These Sharp and Dell laptops may have an early version of Socket Services, built into the BIOS, that is not compatible with newer PCMCIA software specifications. In this case, the PROTOCOL.INI file must include the keyword string 'socketservices = NO'. ** Sharp 6781 only ** We recommend using memory segment D000 for the PCMCIA Card on the Sharp 6781, this is the default memory assignment. The Sharp BIOS should also be configured. On page 2=of=4 in the BIOS setup, underneath the section heading "Floppy Drives & IC Card," configure the third entry as follows: Device 3 (Other): IC Card COM Port: COM3 I/O 3E8H, IRQ 5 Also on page 3-of-4 in the setup have the heading EMS Pageframe: DISABLED Toshiba T3300SL and Grid Convertible ==================================== These Toshiba and Grid laptops must be run in 8=bit mode. This requires that the 'iowordsize' keyword be set to '8' in either the NET.CFG or PROTOCOL.INI file. ** Toshiba T3300SL only ** The BIOS also must be set up to accommodate I/O cards. To set up the PCMCIA slot, select the SETUP option in the program TEST3.EXE. Change the option on the 'Card Modem' entry to 'Not Used'. This prevents BIOS from enabling the PCMCIA slot for a proprietary Toshiba modem card. Zenith Data Systems Z-Lite 320L =============================== This machine will only work in I/O-only mode. Texas Instruments 6000 Series ============================= These machines may require BIOS and Card & Socket Services updates. Contact Texas Instruments to obtain those updates. 7) BAY NETWORKS TECHNICAL SUPPORT ============================== To obtain technical support for your Bay Networks product, please call or send a fax to the appropriate number listed below.
