June 22, 2005 Yesterday I had economics class until 9:00PM. One wierd thing I learned was that my professor actually grew up in Ashland, MA, only about 10 mi. from Medway, Massachusetts where i grew up. We talked for a few minutes about our town's soccer team. Small world, I guess. When I got home, i went outside to water a little patch of ground I'm trying to grow grass on. It was dark at the time, but our porch light was on. As i went over to the spigot, which is under our front window behind some bushes, i was met with approximately 10 billion little flies having an orgy around my porch light! These flies are all over Cleveland right now. They look similar to mosquitos, but they don't seem to bite. I went back in the garage to grab the poison. My wife says the bugs only live for 24hrs, but the ones on my front porch had a much shorter life span. What's more, two of the fattest spiders i have ever seen set up some giant webs all around the front door. it was party time for them. Well, they got a tasty dose of poison too. This morning when i went outside to see the damage, I found a pile, literally a pile, of dead flies on the porch under the spider webs. I don't know if it was from the posion or the spiders. Tonight I have to clean up the carcasses with a shovel... Adios, Jeff .
