February 8, 2005 I've been pretty lazy about making entries here, but I'll try and pick up the pace. Although i doubt anyone reads this anyway. This morning before work, I had my little Netgear MP101, which is a wireless internet music player attached to my stereo, playing a pretty good internet radio station. I beleive it was wub-fur.dhs.org. I really recommend the MP101 to anyone who has a Windows computer and a nice stereo. The little machine rocks and it's damn cheap. So I was trying to think of what my picks for the best songs would be. Like a top ten list, but not necessarily my favorite. My favorite song is "What's the Frequency, Kenneth" from REM's Monster album. But i'd be the first to admit that it's not the greatest piece of rock ever written; it's just a really good song. So here's a partial list that I need to try to add to. It's in no particular order: Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin Jane Says by Jane's Addiction Layla by Derek and the Dominos American Pie by Don McClean November Rain by Guns and Roses So I can only think of 5. They do seem a bit unrelated. They're not necessarily my favorites. My favorites, in order, are: 1. What's the Frequency, Kenneth by REM 2. Now They'll Sleep by Belly 3. Lone Star Song by Grant Lee Buffalo 4. Change in the Weather by Love Spit Love 5. On Your Own by The Verve 6. Losing my Religion by REM 7. Steam by Peter Gabriel 8. Walk This World by Heather Nova 9. Fanfare by Eric Matthews 10. Out of Here by Soul Asylum I think every song above came out while I was in high school (the 90s). I haven't heard music that really compares to my high school collection in years, with the exception of some REM albums and a few independent labels. I'm going to grow up to be my childrens' worst nightmare, a guy stuck in the 90s. Adios, Jeff .
