August 17, 2005 No updates for a while... sorry about that. I've been kinda busy lately. I think since I last wrote that there has been some progress in dorkworld. I did manage to get a diskless NetBSD/i386 system up and running. It involved recompiling the NetBSD kernel, which sounds hard, but was actually simple and fast in reality. I also finally got my Freenet node back up and running again. That was quite a big achievement. I've been working on Exhale, my Freeenet client, quite a bit lately. I modified it to compile on Linux, but GTK was having a fit with my multithreaded architecture. Apprarently you can't even emit signals from other threads in GTK. The Windows version didn't return errors because it could handle the calls, but X was returning lots of problems. So I've rebuilt the threading system to be 100x more robust and thread-safe. It should be done soon. I was also busy pulling lanscaping timbers out of my backyard. The losers who owned the house before me put these railroad tie sized chunks of wood all around their gardens. Although only one was showing, they sat two deep in the ground (three deep in one location). On top of that, they connected them with freakin' rebar. I'm not kiding, rebar. It was hammered right through the giant timbers. It mad breaking them apart unbelievably difficult. It's not like 8-foot lengths of 8x8 lumber are going to blow away in the wind, so why connect them with steel? Adios, Jeff .
