April 14, 2005 I plan on releasing a new program soon that I've been working on as I take my Econometrics class. It's a statisics program that runs in Java and looks a lot like a spreadsheet. We were given Eviews, an econometrics package, to use with the class. As soon as i saw my professor type in "ls y c x" to perform a least-squares curve fit, I knew I was NOT going to use Eviews. The interface is a nightmare on top of that. They used some ridiculous custom API in windows that makes everything look stupid. I think it might be 100% Fortran. Anyway, my little program can perform least-squares fit, complete with graphing and generating new variables. It runs completely in Java, and there is just about no error trapping, meaning a wrong step will bring down the program. Pretty neat, otherwise. I finally brought up my HP 715 workstation to act as the gateway to my home network. It had been down since I set up my new Freenet/print server in the basement. Right now I have three machines running at home, none of which are primary computers. Cool. My current setup at home on the network are: dream Athlon XP 2000+ running Windows XP copenhagen Athlon XP 2000+ running Debian "Sarge" kakadu HP 715/100 running Debian "Sarge" alwaysprepared K6-2 450 running Debian "Sarge" stockholm Pentium 166 running Debian "Woody" kensington VAXstation 3100 M38 running NetBSD 2.0RC3 Only kakadu, kensington, and alwaysprepared are always running. Others get shutdown regularly. Now the real question is what is my naming scheme? Probably not, especially since they are not all of the same scheme. Adios, Jeff .
