In Internet, there are mainly two types of interactive (2 ways communication)
area for discussion. One is the Usenet newsgroups, and the other is the
Mailing List. Usenet newsgroups are good for general discussions, and the 
system operator will subscribe to those newsgroups according to needs. 
Mailing Lists, on the other hand, is operated via email. Most of these
Mailing Lists are specialize, and moderated by list operator. Some of these
list allow general public to subscribe, while others are not. Either way,
you have to register with the list owner by email, and you will start
receiving articles via your email account. You can also post to the Mailing
List by sending your article to the list address.

The address information provided here are those Mailing Lists related to
geography topics, and contain useful information for our students and
staff.

Please note that our department have subscribed to most of these Mailing
List, except those personal ones, via GEOG Mail Office. Our department do
moderate and operate a number of local geography Usenet newsgroups, and
articles from those subscribed Mailing List will be forward-posted to
there once scanned. Students and Staff can be view them just like other
Usenet newsgroup. Please refer to "About Geography Mail Office" sub-menu 
and the monthly announcement posted on those local newsgroups for further
details.

As stated above, most Mailing Lists have been subscribed by our department.
And resource (especially disk storage space) in all our systems are limited,
students of our college DO NOT ENCOURAGED to subscribe to those lists already 
exist in our local newsgroup. However, for those personal ones which our
department don't have the right to forward-post, you are welcome to subscribe
them individually according to your needs. 

Most of these Mailing Lists have automatic list server to handle requests.
To subscribe, simple send a one line message,

	SUBSCRIBE (list name) {your name}
	
to the Server address listed. If an Email address is found in place of
Server address, this means that subscription to that list will be process
manually. You have to write a mail to the list owner at that email address
for details.

Once you have subscribed, you can post article to that list group by sending
it to List address. Refer to the Introductory message the list group send
you for rules and policies in using that Mailing List.
