HONG KONG BAPTIST UNIVERSITY REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE USE OF WAI HANG SPORTS CENTRE AND DR. STEPHEN HUI SPORTS HALL (JANUARY 1997) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOREWORD The Regulations governing the use of Wai Hang Sports Centre (WHS) and Dr. Stephen Hui Sports Hall (SHS) (hereinafter referred to as "the Sports Facilities") aim to serve as a general guide and source of information to all users whilst using the Sports Facilities. The Regulations governing the use of the Sports Facilities are posted at the entrance of the WHS. The English version of the regulations can be accessed from the University World Wide Web/Gopher Services. The University reserves the right to modify, revoke, or add to such regulations when necessary. However, written notices concerning the above will be posted at the entrances of the Sports Facilities. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Content 1. Useful Telephone Numbers --------------------------------------------------------------------------- GENERAL REGULATIONS 1.1 Opening Hours 1.1.1 The Sports Facilities will be open as follows : Monday to Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Sunday 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Closed on public holidays except those as listed in 1.1.2 1.1.2 The Sports Facilities will be closed on public holidays except those 7 announced by the Management. The days will be posted at the WHS during the first week of September of each year. 1.1.3 Users must leave the Sports Facilities at closing time. 1.1 4 The management of the Sports Facilities (hereinafter referred to as "the Management") shall close any part of the facilities if, in its opinion, the facilities at any time are not fit for use or for any other reasons, e.g. bad weather. 1.2 Eligible Users The Sports Facilities are available to the following users provided that they produce their own Hong Kong Baptist University I. D. Cards / Sports Centre User Card on entry. 1.2.1 Full-time students/ Part-time post graduate students of UGC funded programme . Each may bring one paying guest at one time to use the Sports Facilities. 1.2.2 Full-time staff. Each may bring three paying guests at one time to use the Sports Facilities. 1.2.3 Members of Board of Governors and the Council. Each may bring three paying guests at one time to use the Sports Facilities. 1.2.4 Holders of Staff Dependent Card. (For those under the age of 18, when using the Sports Facilities must be accompanied by one of their parents or an eligible user aged 18 or above.) 1.2.5 Part-time staff are eligible to use any Sports Facilities on Sundays and public holidays as listed in 1.1.2 and Summer Saturdays (June, July and August). 1.2.6 Alumni (a) All alumni are eligible to apply for the Sports Centre user Cards. (b) Quota for alumni is 400 user cards per year. (c) Valid period of use for alumni user card includes Sundays, public holidays (as listed in 1.1.2) and Summer Saturdays (June, July and August). (d) Booking procedure and charges of Sports Facilities follow the same guidelines as applied to full-time staff. (e) Alumni may bring a maximum of 3 paying guests at any one time to use the Sports Facilities. 1.2.7 Members of Century Club (a) Valid period of use of Sports Facilities for members of Century Club includes Sundays, public holidays as listed in 1.1.2 and Summer Saturdays (June, July and August). (b) Booking procedure and charges of Sports Facilities follow the same guidelines as applied to full-time staff. (c) Members of Century Club may bring a maximum of 3 paying guests at any one time. 1.2.8 Other full-time staff not directly employed by the University (subject to annual fee payment) (same guidelines as applied to full-time staff members except that they are not allowed to bring guests). 1.2.9 Other approved users specified by the Management, e.g. visiting team etc. 1.3 Paying Guests Guests may use the Sports Facilities under the following conditions:- (a) Paying guests may use any Sports Facilities (except Fitness Room) during opening hours. (b) An additional charge to enter the Swimming Pool of WHS. (c) Each guest ticket will have the buyer's name, eligible user's card number and an expiry date written on it. The expiry date is 1 year after the date of purchase. Unused tickets will be considered VOID once they expire and extension of use for such tickets will not be entertained. (d) A guest will be admitted to the Sports Facilities only upon surrendering a ticket. (e) Guest tickets are non-refundable. (f) Eligible user must accompany his/her guest . When entering the Sports Facilities must remain with the guest throughout the guest's stay. (g) All guests must register by signing the guests book when entering the Sports Facilities. (h) Eligible user shall be responsible for the conduct of his or her guests during their stay in any of the Sports Facilities. (i) A guest shall observe all regulations regarding the use of Sports Facilities. (j) Any violation of the above regulations by an eligible user shall result in suspension of his or her right to bring guests into any Sports Facilities. The suspension period will be decided by the Sports Facilities Management Committee. 1.4 Booking 1.4.1 The Physical Education Subject, Training Course, University Team and other activities organized by the Department of Physical Education of the University have priority in using the Sports Facilities during which they will not be available to other users. 1.4.2 Users may only book the courts /tables during open periods and the periods allocated to them. 1.4.3 Staff can use the courts during student hours if the courts are not in use 10 minutes after the commencement of each scheduled session. Similarly, students are entitled to use the courts during staff hours. 1.4.4 Basketball and Volleyball Court bookings must be made in the name of a society, club or department. 1.4.5 Group booking (a) All bookings for official matches between groups of users must be made a minimum of two weeks in advance with the Department of Physical Education of the University. (b) Application for the use of Sports Facilities by a group of staff or students who wish to join an outside league (i.e. matches with outsiders) must be made a minimum of four weeks in advance to the Department of Physical Education of the University. In the case of student groups, booking can only be made through the respective Sports Secretary of the Student Union, club or individual society. This application must be accompanied by a proposed fixture. 1.4.6 Individual booking (a) Individual bookings for use of tennis, squash and badminton facilities can be made a maximum of seven calendar days in advance at the Booking Counter (at the entrance of WHS.) (b) Each individual booking is limited to 60 minutes only. 1.4.7 Users must produce their appropriate Hong Kong Baptist University I.D. Cards / Sports Centre User Cards (except Staff Dependent Cards) in person when booking is made. 1.4.8 Users are required to produce their University I.D. Cards / Sports Centre User Cards at the Booking Counter. A permit will then be given upon payment of an appropriate fee(Fees paid are non-refundable). 1.4.9 Users must check the details of their bookings before leaving the Booking Counter, no amendments will be made afterwards. 1.4.10 The permit to use the particular facility booked must be produced for inspection upon request. 1.4.11 For any one type of facility, an user can normally make only one booking per day unless otherwise specified. 1.4.12 Cancellation of booking (a) All bookings will be considered cancelled if the facilities have not been occupied 10 minutes after the beginning of the reserved session. Other users who wish to make use of the vacant facilities must make their bookings at the Booking Counter. (b) Cancellation of bookings are encouraged to be done in advance before the reserved time. 1.4.13 Telephone bookings will not be entertained. 1.4.14 In case of adverse weather, those with advanced bookings may change their bookings with the original permit at the booking centre within 7 days. No compensation will be made after that. 1.5 Discipline 1.5.1 Dress Users shall be dressed in appropriate sports wear . For all Indoor Facilities and Tennis Courts, footwear must be non-marking rubber soled plimsolls. No person wearing a swimming suit is permitted to enter any part of the Indoor Facilities and Tennis Courts other than the Changing Rooms. 1.5.2 Animals No animals are allowed to enter the Sports Facilities. 1.5.3 Smoking SMOKING is prohibited in the Sports Facilities. 1.5.4 Food and drink Except with permission or in the designated area, no food or drink is permitted in the Sports Facilities. 1.5.5 Audio-Visual Equipment Except with permission, no person is allowed to use a radio set, portable TV receiver, tape recorder , or similar equipment or play any musical instrument or operate a camera anywhere in the Sports Facilities. 1.5.6 Gambling GAMBLING is not allowed within the Sports Facilities. 1.5.7 Misconduct (a) In the case of misconduct, or of any action inconsistent with the regulations governing the use of the Sports Facilities, the management or the sports attendants shall have the authority to reject or debar the offender from the premises or using the facilities, and if necessary the Management shall report such person(s) to the Management Committee for appropriate action. (b) All users of the Sports Facilities are prohibited to lend their HKBU I.D. cards/ Sports Centre User cards to others. Any violation of this regulation will lead to punitive action against the person concerned and the revoke of his/her eligibility for using the Sports Facilities. 1.6 Equipment and Property 1.6.1 Equipment may be checked out to users after they have filled in their names and University I.D. Card numbers on the Equipment Loan Book. 1.6.2 Users must produce and deposit their valid user cards for the loan of equipment. 1.6.3 Equipment checked out will be the responsibility of the person who has signed for it. Lost and damaged equipment will be charged to the person responsible on a cost basis. Equipment checked out has to be returned immediately by the borrowers after the use of the Sports Facilities. 1.6.4 Users will be responsible for any damage to the properties of the Sports Facilities such as lockers, windows, flooring, furniture, etc. For the sake of safety, damage should be reported immediately to the Equipment Counters. 1.7 Changing Rooms and Lockers Keys for lockers in the Changing Rooms are issued at the Equipment Counters. Users must deposit their University I.D. Cards / Sports Centre User Cards for the use of lockers. On checking out, all keys must be returned to the Attendant at the Equipment Counter so that the lockers can be made available to other users. 1.8 Lost and Found (a) Users are reminded not to leave valuables in the Sports Facilities. The University will accept no responsibility for personal property. (b) All found properties will be sent to the WHS Equipment Counter and kept for a period of 3 months. Thereafter all unclaimed items will be transferred to Office of Student Affairs. 1.9 First-Aid and Liability for Accidents First-aid boxes are kept in the Equipment Counters and the First-aid Room. Users are responsible for their own safety and the University will accept no responsibility or liability for any accident or injury howsoever incurred by users. 1.10 Spectators (for matches approved by the Department of Physical Education of the University.) Spectators are allowed only in the area which is covered with rubber floor-mats, and the viewing galleries. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. SWIMMING POOL 2.1 Opening Hours The opening hours of the Swimming Pool are posted on the notice board of WHS. 2.2 Rules for Using Swimming Pool 2.2.1 The following persons are not allowed to enter the Swimming Pool: (a) anyone who has suffering from conjunctivitis (red eye) or other contagious diseases; (b) anyone who has affected by alcohol or drugs. 2.2.2 Users must produce their permit when they enter the pool. 2.2.3 Children under 12 must be accompanied by adult when using the pool. 2.2.4 No other clothes, apart from swimming suit, are allowed in the Swimming Pool. 2.2.5 Users must use the footbath and have a shower before entering the Swimming Pool. 2.2.6 No users wearing footwear of any kind, except clean and unsoiled rubber sandals(flip-flops) shall enter the artificial turf area. 2.2.7 No food and drink will be permitted in the pool area. 2.2.8 Users with suntan lotion on their body are prohibited. 2.2.9 Only kickboards and buoys are permitted in the Swimming Pool. 2.2.10 Diving or other activities which may cause hindrance to other swimmers are prohibited. Games of any kind or chases are not allowed in the Swimming Pool and surrounding area. 2.2.11 Users with hair up to shoulder length must wear swimming caps or tie up their hair in the Swimming Pool. 2.2.12 Users must put the equipment back after use. 2.2.13 Users are reminded not to leave valuables in the Swimming Pool area. The University will accept no responsibility for personal property. 2.2.14 Users must leave the Swimming Pool 15 minutes before the closing time. 2.2.15 Users must follow the instructions of the staff on-duty and the Life-Guard. 2.2.16 The University reserves the right to withdraw the use of its facility to anyone not complying with the above rules or for any other reason. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. CHARGES The charges for facilities and guests are posted on the notice board of the WHS. NOTE: Any violation of the above conditions by any user may result in suspension of his or her right to use the Sports Facilities.
