OK, I got that far, except I did not assign the tty devices
or the scrolling function. I will try those when I get home.

>From looking at the DL0 and cpu 45, is that for the 7th edition images?

I was trying to bring up the 5th edition image, and was using:

set cpu 40 (5th edition requires an 11/40 or 11/45?)
mount dk0: unix5.dsk (are the DK names supposed to be upper case?)
boot dk0:

All I got was the @ prompt. Was there some other sequence of
incantations necessary to bring up a unix prompt? The last time
I booted a pdp11 was over 20 years back, and that was only twice
if memory serves me correctly, and my greymatters are rather dense
on it these days. Everything I typed in that came to mind aborted
with a halt and register dump and the E11> prompt.

In the emulator, can someone clarify the sequence of events that
should be used to get it up to some state that an ls command
will give me somewhat of a normal looking unix response?

I noticed the 6th edition was in 3 disk images. How are those
related to bring them up properly in E11? Should they be mounted
on DK or DL 0/1/2 respectively? Likewise on the 2 7th edition
images? One of the 7th edition images was tagged xxxxxdl. I am
assuming that requires mounting on a DL:n rather than a DK:n....?

So much to learn....

Oh, well, I am the dummy in these areas.....(:+}}.....

OK. Would something like a dos extender run it in high memory?
The 386 box I tried it on has 8 megs ram. Just thinking.....

I tried to build the sim2.3 simulator on my AIX box and that did not.
(Old AIX 1.2.) I will try the FreeBSD box next and see how that goes.

For sure!

To think of all the guildern we put into things like the RS-16B's
when a pc would have done.....(:+}}.... oh well, that was then and
here is now..... now I play it for fun and learning..... then I had
to crunch data.

I have a decstation 2100 sitting idle (parts for my 21/3100 box).
Is it possible to load up something on it, out of curiosity?
After all DEC oughta run DECpdp, right? I can port up a mini-NetBSD
image to it, stripped down on a spare 100 meg rz drive. Then what
should one do to attempt to bring up the v5? If I can get that to do
itself up by script, headless, then I should be able to bring up a
decwriter or such (maybe even an asr33 for fun) on the tty port
for a great leap backwards. (There is a student compsci fellow
here that is into sparcs, and I kindof think it would be neat to
see if he could run an asr33 on a closet v5 box maybe.....(:+}}....).
That would be a fun trip for this old man..... a challenge.....

> Hope this helps,

Yes, it does...... getting there slowly...... a few crashes later....
But, what the heck..... it beats GatesWineos......
