Since at least a couple of other folks seem to be in the same boat
that you are, I'm forwarding the following information to the pups
list as well. I hope Warren doesn't mind too much - maybe he
could put the information below in the PUPS FAQ so that new folks
can find it immediately without it having to be discussed to death
on the pups list.

The main newsgroup on Usenet for PDP-11 discussions is "vmsnet.pdp-11".
"alt.sys.pdp11" also exists, but it was created by some ignorant
person who didn't know at the time that "vmsnet.pdp-11" had been around
for several years before.

"vmsnet.pdp-11" is pretty much a catch-all for anything PDP-11
related. Hardware, OS's, applications, philosophy, you name it, it's there.

"vmsnet.pdp-11" is automatically reflected (and visa versa) by
the info-pdp11 mailing list. "alt.sys.pdp11" is not reflected,
though if you're really interested in reading it you can get it
through one of the many Usenet-to-mail gateways.

Here's the scoop on info-pdp11:

POSTING
=======

To post to the list, send mail to info-pdp11@transarc.com

SUBSCRIBING
===========

To subscribe to info-pdp11, send the following in the body (not
the subject line) of an email message to "Majordomo@transarc.com":

	subscribe info-pdp11

This will subscribe the account from which you send the message to
the info-pdp11 list.

If you wish to subscribe another address instead (such as a local
redistribution list), you can use a command of the form:

	subscribe info-pdp11 other-address@your_site.your_net

UNSUBSCRIBING
=============

To unsubscribe from info-pdp11, send the following in the body (not
the subject line) of an email message to "Majordomo@transarc.com":

	unsubscribe info-pdp11

This will unsubscribe the account from which you send the message.
If you are subscribed with some other address, you'll have to send
a command of the following form instead:

	unsubscribe info-pdp11 other-address@your_site.your_net

If you don't know what address you are subscribed with, you can send
the following command to see who else is on the list (assuming that
information isn't designated "private" by the owner of the list):

	who info-pdp11

If you want to search non-private lists at this server, you can do that
by sending a command like:

	which string

This will return a list of all entries on all lists that contain "string".
