Tarzan of the Apes

a story by Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) which first appeared in 1914. It featured Tarzan who was the son of an English nobleman, abandoned in Africa in his infancy. He was brought up by apes, learned to speak their language and went through a long series of breathless adventures. Millions of copies of the Tarzan books have been sold, innumerable films have been made of his adventures and he has long been a comic-strip favorite.
