Quetzalcoatl(ca. A.D. 1100) ancient god and legendary ruler of the Toltecs (an Indian people that ruled the central Mexican highlands from about A.D. 900-1200) in Mexico. He is credited with the discovery of maize, the arts, science and the calendar. He encouraged road building, commerce and revived learning. After his death he was deified as the Feathered Serpent, god of the winds, of peace and of industry. |
