Eddy, Mary Bakera reference to the book Science and Health, published in 1875 by Mary Baker Eddy (1821-1910), which asserted that matter was an illusion and that "Spirit" (i.e., God) was everything. "The starting-point of divine Science," Mrs. Eddy states, "is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind." Mary Baker Eddy was the founder of Christian Science, a church and religious system emphasizing healing through spiritual means as an important element of Christianity.
