Brothers Karamazov, The

a novel which is considered to be the best work of Theodor Dostoevski. The main plot involves a father and his four sons. The father and one of the sons are rivals for the affections of the local siren. Violent quarrels over her and over the son's disputed inheritance ensue until the father is killed and the son arrested and brought to trial for the crime.
