Welcome to the "Loki Cult" Web Page!
This is a page for the friends and followers of the most infamous of Norse gods, Loki. We've been compared to Satanists and the author of this web page was told he is well known for his "Loki Cult" by one of our local enemies. We have taken the name with pride and made it our own. Better to be infamous than unknown!!
In reality, we are serious about our worship of Loki though our attitudes towards worship and him may differ than what you would expect. Loki isn't exactly the kind of god you grovel before for favors. He appreciates a good trick or forthright commentary. He's the kind of guy who says the thing that everyone knows is true but no one is willing to say aloud. He's a trickster and the last person you want to invite to a well behaved party or social gathering. We aim for the same and to bring out those aspects of ourselves that society doesn't approve of and which it sees as "subversive" or "undesirable" because they don't adhere to the social order that others wish to impose on us all.
Some of us concentrate on developing in ourselves Loki's wit and sharp tongue. Some in his ability to cause a problem and then come up with an amazing solution to the same problem. Some in making people laugh. A few of us try to understand and gain some measure of Loki's abilities as a magician and shapeshifter. There are no rules. This is not an orthodox, rule-bound disciplined high church of Loki. This is a uncontrollable fire of a cult, burning itself as often as making anything useful. We're a bit heretical and wouldn't have it any other way.
There are plenty of people in Asatru that say we shouldn't exist and that Loki is not a god to be worshipped. They act like he is Satan and we should all be Christians to his role as such. We say they are wrong and to ignore Loki is to ignore the blood-brother of Odhinn and the travelling companion of Thor. The one who helped Thor recover his hammer and, in fact, was responsible for its creation along with many of the other great artifacts of the gods.
Yes, he helps destroy the world in the end but this is so a new world can be created from the ashes. It is part of the cycle, not an end forever. Besides, if you were bound to a rock in a cave with the guts of one of your sons and with a snake dripping venom on your face for a few centuries, you'd probably be a bit miffed with the world in general as well.
